The connecting rod blasting through the micro block is the iceberg impact. The bad bearing is akin to the dudes in the crows nest that spotted the iceberg too late.

Either way I personally dont care a lot about problems like this. Because I have a warranty. If i decided to keep my E92 i would replace the rod bearings or sell the car. Its that simple. |

rofl, I believe everything coming from the Iraqi Minister of Information. If he says no problems, then no problems.

It's actually just gone while you were parked. More seriously, the numbers are barely out of double digits that we know of

FWIW. The service manager at my BMW dealership in a major metropolitan area and I served in combat together, so I trust him. Though they sell a lot of M cars, he tells me that he has never seen a bearing issue on a E9X M3 in his service department (E46 M3-Yes, E9X M3-No). I've had two E93s and my present E92 Coupe and the only issue I've had with any of them has been with the origami top on one of the convertibles.

Everyone has different opinions on this matter. I guess I'll go by this:
The e92 bearings are speced to tight People don't break them in, or warm them up properly People only complain when something is wrong People supercharge or mod engines BMW set ridiculous oil change intervals Oil analysis may or may not tell something, depending on the year. Since I bought mine new, and have been with it since the beginning, I'm in no rush to sell it. When the time comes, I'll probably do the bearings. But if BMW made 80,000 of these cars, and 5,000 fail, and 2,000 are due to improper owner care, then is it really something to worry and sell the car over? My M3 has been good to me, the best. I'm not going to throw it away because it might do something 80,000 miles from now.

they will have ultra high pressure fuel pump issues and blown waste gates like the 335 crowd except because it's an M, it'll cost 3x as much. ![]() |

That's my take; the new S55 motor is little more than a gussied up sedan engine and will likely be subject to the same problems that the motor experienced in other applications.

The fail rate is still loitering around the 1.5% mark...0% would be better but 1.5% is not that bad.
Get a warranty or, change your bearings at some time or, take the 98.5% chance it won't break or sell it if you can't take the stress. Last edited by SenorFunkyPants; 06-23-2015 at 07:38 AM.. |
