Any known problems with the E92 M3?

So I am about to close a deal and purchase a 2008 E92 M3, I was wondering if there are any known problems? I've heard from some people that the car is known for bearing failure. Is this true? I've heard it depends on the car but should I get this replaced eventually no matter what? Has anyone experienced this problem on their E92?

Its a very stout car built for hard driving. Two issues:

Maintenance: Ensure you have a detailed history of oil changes ETC. the S65 motor is a near race motor and needs good oil changes.

There may be bearing issues with some S65 motors. use the search function for that.

Apart from the car instantly exploding when you press the start button, you mean? But that raaaaaarely happens (what, 6 out of 10 times, guys?). You're good...probably.

JK. Search rod bearings. That'll be your homework for tonight!

If you'd Googled "M3 known issues site:m3post.com", you'd have found what you want. After all, in 2014 the chances that no other prospective buyer has posed this question to a forum of M3 enthusiasts before is relatively slim, don't you think?

For bearings, invest in some Blackstone Labs reports, and if they indicate a problem, THEN consider replacing them. The new ones will be a newer, harder design than the ones used in 08 models.

And that "site:" search modifier for Google is extremely handy for lots of situations when you know that what you want is likely on a particular domain.

Sorry for not being helpful (well not really sorry)..But you posted on a forum which is where people normally complain about problems. Surely you could find something if you just spent a little time looking through the forum. Make an effort!

I'd recommend warranty for peace of mind. My cars valve spring broke few weeks after I got it... Brand new.

Check for paint scratches under the front lip. Although, non-competition package cars ride 10mm higher. Any imperfections are haggle points.

The previous owner purchased the Platinum warranty so I still have it a little over a year left on it. Hopefully if anything serious breaks that will cover it. But knowing my luck it will happen just after it expires lol
