2026 BMW X7  [7.25]
BMW seems to be abandoning the essence of its flagship vehicles. Models like the X7 no longer reflect the craftsmanship and quality expected from a brand that once set the benchmark. Cost- and corner-cutting are becoming too obvious, cheapened finishes, reduced attention to detail, and an overall drop in execution. Meanwhile, ultra-limited models like the Skytop receive all the precision and care that should define the entire lineup, not just a few halo cars with absurd markups.

It’s disappointing to see BMW trading long-term brand integrity and risking customer loyalty for short-term exclusivity and a quick buck.

Give us all-analog if they want the desirable kind of old. No one 'wants' a 2018 interior in 2025. 1999 Z8 interior, maybe.
8 years in todays car market is an eternity.
Should they have made the car with an interior from the 2000's?

I swear this isn't sour grapes – I believe I'd opt-out of having my picture and name published while taking delivery. Seems kind of douchey, if I'm being honest.
Goes to the "Exclusive PRIVACY Room" and ends up going public to the world. Makes no sense to me. Total douchery unless its proven that he puts 5,000 miles a year on the car and enjoys it.....otherwise what is there to celebrate???

Exactly, which is why the laziness is extraordinary.

People would be celebrating, if they indeed copied the '99 Z8 interior in 2025.

But I fully expect ol mate to be there when the limited 30 edition ballet is drawn, and good on him for taking the hit. The nature of marketing, humans, and ownership means generally cars trickle down for others to enjoy.

I'll pass on the Skytop but got my eye on a ex lease M5 touring wagon or M3 in the future, works for me.
I mean, it's not. What people are paying for is the exclusivity and the ego-boost they get out of it. Doesn't make any sense to me, but what do I know?

15 years from now when it shows up at an auction with 800 miles on it, someone else will buy it for the same reason. Rinse, repeat. And the car will sadly never actually be driven and will exist only so someone can say they have it. Humans are so weird, lol.

Same same but different. I'm educating my my son don't buy new, buy x lease or demo at worst if he wants a current car. We look at a pristine 2022 M3 with all the checked additions for 110K with 30,000km and still has warranty. Down the dealer the other day the 2025 M3 drives away for 207K. Some dude be it in the private room or just down the local dealer is having the same rush of blood.

Many of these cars are bought for tax purposes, see little to no use, get serviced on point, and plumet in vale. Even the sacred M3 is not immune. Everyone to their own but fools or the cashed up by new in my view. However it doesn't matter generally as they don't give a toss because its just for tax, or its little more than "what else" kind of thing.

I tell the son he gets a great car for a reasonable price, and has 100k for other experiences in life. But being at the povo end and working on his career choices from school, we settle on some 2010 E9X M-sports, rinse and repeat. To be honest though, if we could by the 2020 equivalent I'm betting no leaps and bounds have been made.

I think it was Adam Carolla who compared his rarely-driven car collection to a stamp collection, saying something along the lines of “does anybody give a stamp collector shit for not sending letters with theirs?”

OK, but why?
Aren't we discussing 8-series / Skytop here?

You said that BMW is a mass vehicle producer, so let them focus on what they do best, which is more SUVs and more Touring models. I know people like these types of vehicles. I don't like them

Wow, what a terrible analogy. A stamp is a one-time use, disposable object, whereas a car's entire purpose is to be driven for years.

Also: a lot of stamp collectors collect postmarked stamps.
