RAC RG63 18x9/18x10 2?5F/265R? Michelin PSS

Tire sizing... should I go 245/265 stock, or upsize because of additional rim width?

I hear there are some DSC issues if I reduce the stagger. Will be going with the Michelin Pilot Super Sport.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

255/35 and 275/35 are what you want.

Should use 40-series on 18's with the 255's and 275's, 255/40-18 and 275/40-18 would be great, or you could do 265/35-18 or 275/35-18 front with 285 or 295/35-18 rears. 275's would be a little pinched in front but it wouldn't be too bad. Not sure of the offsets on the RAC's though they seem pretty conservative (i.e., not retardedly pushed out to the fenders). Depends on the tire too. PSS's probably won't be any wider or more square than the PS2's, they don't look it in photos

Width stagger isn't what freaks out the DSC, tire diameter changes which affect wheel speed does, and my car isn't "freaked" about 245/40-18 fronts and 275/40-18 rears, though it was slightly more sensitive when the rear tires were new.

Thanks for the comments all.

Ashley, thanks- however, I'm actually not looking to increase grip at all. I care about 2 things, steering response and ride quality. More width kinda goes against both. So I'm partial to stock sizes over going 265/285.

Rich- good idea but no 275/40R18 in Pilot Super Sport fitment

So my thoughts are either 265/35R18 front or 245/40R18 front... 265/35 may be too short still...

255 is out because not enough stagger I guess...?

255 rear? Or front? I don't see a problem with that front with 265 rears, same concept as running square setup, diameters are closer to the same

I don't really think it's going to make a huge difference to anything if I just stick with stock sizes.

What's the effect on rolling diameter if I stick to 245 and stretch it .5" more on a 9" rim instead of 8.5"? 1%? 0.1%?

You can find tire size calculators on the internet very easily. 245/40 matches up well to 265/35 and 265/40 matches up well to 285/35. If you can't get those sizes in the tire you want, consider another tire or another size.

Tires are recommended for certain widths. A 245/40/18 is measured on an 8.5 width wheel and is recommended for 8.0 to 9.5. If you run it on wider than measured spec, you gain 0.2 treadwith for each 0.5 inch added wheel width. Of course you also lose some sidewall flex and thus ride quality, but there is always a tradeoff and you can begin to see how the car makers compromised in choosing the factory sizes.

I have a set of the ARC8s coming in 18 x 9.5/10.5 and will probably reuse my nearly new PS2s in 245/40 and 265/40. They will be at the end of the recommended wheel width, but turn in should be improved and I am not convinced ride quality will be any worse than going down to a 35 series sidewall for a wider tire. My ideal choice was 265/35 and 285/35 but I could not sell my near new PS2s locally. Maybe I will change sizes for the next set.

You have the 18" RG63's that were done for the E46 M3, correct? If so, you should look at Radiation Joe's setup as he also has those wheels. He discusses his setup in posts #4049 & #4055: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234632

That is different, the PS2 has 275/40R18 fitment whereas that sizing is not available in PSS (yet).

Additionally the 275/40 sidewall looks way too fat.

Man,
You hurt my feelings. Sidewalls too fat? That's like telling your wife that skirt makes her ass look fat.

255/40 PS2 and 275/40 PS2 15mm spacer in front

That looks pretty good. They still don't make a 275/40R18 though. I fear it would look fat on my car because I'm at stock height with no intentions of changing suspension whereas you're on Dinan springs I believe...

Additionally, 275/40R18 would definitely not fit on my E46 M3 which I want to be able to put the wheels on as well.

Sorry. I completely missed the fact you were talking about 18" and not 19" RACs.

if anything helps! I"m going with 265/35/18 on the front and 295/35/18 on the rear. I think this set up to me would be the best for daily and track + some mexico run

I run PSS 255/35 275/35 on my 19" RACs. They run a bit more square then the PS2s, but not clearance issues at all.

I went from 245/265 PS2's to 245/265 PSS's and I can say undoubtedly that they grip better, ride better, are quieter, and respond quicker. 18" OEM to 18" RAC.

There is a huge discussion of tire options for the 18 inch RG63s here:

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=327012 (pics)

and here

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ight=inch+RG63 (group buy discussion)

These are e46 fitment discussions for the most part.

No, I have never had those tires on my car.

I have had RE-01R's on a different car and I think the Michelin Pilot Super Sport has a comparable amount of grip and response while having a slightly better and quieter ride, but this is apples to oranges as my previous car was not even an M3- WRX STI.

The Super Sports are also very light which makes them the no brainer choice for this car.
