Can someone please explain this to me?
OK... no offense to anyway here who does this...
Would someone PLEASE explain why we are seeing 2011.5 and 2011.75 model year designations being noted by new owners? I don't think I have ever seen 2009.5 or 2010.75, etc. What am I missing here? Is it just OCD owners or is there some significance to this? As far as I know, there are no changes between 2011.25, 2011.5, 2011.75 cars so I'm not seeing why anyone would care... to me its a 2011.00 Guys, sorry if this is a dumb question but it makes no sense to me...

The Combox and 6NR are the 2011.75.
The ZCPs are 2011.5 I know I'm forgetting a thing or two as well. Nothing major. I think most are just being sarcastic with their quotations (I know I am), more to laugh at BMW for having such a long MY 2011. |

Well, that makes some sense I guess. If it were me, I still don't think I would be so specific but at least there is some logic to it.

2011.5 are what folks are calling cars made from sept 2010 and newer which includes auto start/stop, combox, and some package bundle changes during ordering. 2011.75 are what folks are calling cars built from March 2011 and newer which now have the BMW Apps option 6NR.

I say blame BMW for making changes every 6 months.

The three 2011 model years have meaningful distinctions between them. This has been discussed here before ad nauseum, but here's the basic rundown:

Like I said, it's more sarcasm towards BMW for having such a long model year. I suppose for those looking to buy a used on in the next few years, it would be helpful to know which MY2011 they're looking for, if they want any the particular features that the later cars have.
Friend: So, what kind of car are you driving these days? M3Post member: A 2011 M3. Friend: Oh, I didn't tihnk you'd go for a 2 door coupe. M3 Post: It's a sedan. Friend: Oh! Didn't know they made it in a sedan. I don't like the that start/stop feature I read about in the magazines. M3 Post: Oh, mine doesn't have that. Friend: I thought you said it's a MY2011. M3 Post: Yes, but it doesn't have that feature. Friend: Oh, so you don't have ZCP either? Why pass on the extra 50 hp AT THE WHEEL? M3Post: No, It has ZCP. Do you seriously think I'd pass on that extra power and status? Friend: I'm confused. I thought you said you have a MY2011 M3. M3 Post: I do dammit. But it's an early one. Friend: ??? M3 Post: A MY 2011.00. Friend: Oh, why didn't you say so in the first place? Friend: I heard the 6MT is tought to shift from 1st to 2nd. M3 Post:I have the DCT (gestures pulling paddles behind the wheel). Friend: You bought an automatic M3??? M3 Post: As you can see by my example above, calling it MY2011.00, MY2011.50, MY2011.75, MY2011.99 is to save lives, specifically the lives of your friends. |

Can't agree with the notion that it is MDM that became standard rather than M-Drive, Technic.
M-Drive is the ability to configure the car's driving dynamics and activate them via the M Button. This is indeed a standard feature as of MY2011.5. Sure, the level of customization that you get for the base car is not the same as if one has IDrive also, but it is there nevertheless. Also, calling it "MDM" is not really accurate anyway since Servotronic Sport steering is there standard as well. |
