Thanks man! Who knows. I may be back. Maybe this time in DCT.

It's got the lowest number of votes so far in my poll.

Definitely, however I do think that is one of the reasons I got bored with the M3. It's such a capable DD, but as a 2-3 day week + weekend type car, it falls short.

I think the same thing may happen with the TT and even the GT-R.

The great thing you get with the TT though is blistering acceleration.

I did over 4K miles in 2 months across some of the best drivings roads the west has to offer to come to this decision.

I guess you guys really put the M3 on a high pedestal to think you can't be bored with it.

Have you driven lighter cars to compare?
i havent really put it on a pedestal im juss enjoying the car for what it is and i can honestly say i wouldnt have bought it if i was going to have doubts....i too had an E46 M3 and loved it, it was sad seeing her go but i love this car even more...sure it might have some extra weight but thats not much of a problem for me since im fully modded minus a supercharger and i love it

I think I can help you here... Well, hopefully.

I'm the proud owner of a 2004 996 GT3 and a 2008 E93 M3. Only my M3 isn't exactly stock. The previous owner put the RS46 Stroker Motor package from RD Sport in California and changed out the differential. The car is pretty sick and the torque is amazing.. (400+ ft/lb) It's a DCT.

I use the two cars for completely different things though. The GT3 is my track car and is set up that way. The M3 is my everyday street car. The GT3 in my opinion is a much better track car than my M3 even with all of the power that the M3 has. (Too heavy, convertible). The M3 is just so comfortable and a joy to ride on the street. I'm coming from a E46 M3 (6MT) and an E36 M3 (6MT) before that so I'm pretty familiar with BMW. (And for those of you wondering, I would never buy a 335!! It's just a different vehicle all together. M Power baby!!) The GT3 is a much "rougher ride" although the 997 GT3 is much more street friendly.

So I guess it comes down what will your primary purpose for the car be? The 997 GT3 is a much better car for the street than the 996 GT3 IMO and is also great track car. I've been contemplating selling both for a 997 GT3 myself. But I think what I'm going to do is wait a year or two and get a 2010 GT3 to replace both

Hope this helps

Steve Dinan's supercharged 500+ hp e46 M3 is currently for sale. The car is totally dialed in. Why don't you consider that?

I saw that car. I think it had a red interior. Not a fan of colored interiors. It is definately sweet though!

07 GT3 and save for 10 GT3 were the 2 most voted options. After more research, I agree with your statement about the 10 GT3. I think that is the car that can really replace both. PASM is suppose to be great and with the front lift kit, you can get around the hard spots. I'm heading down the path of just waiting it out for a year or so, save some pennies and go 10 GT3.

It was a pleasure dealing with you too. I'm sure you will enjoy the car. Drive it like you stole it! You'll love the Rogue Octane SSK. It is definately an improvement.

if i could afford it my first choice without a doubt would be the 2010 gt3. i would love to drive one. similar engine as ours meaning a high reving lower torque motor but you get it in a package that weighs 600 pounds less. whoo hoo.

2010 GT3.
You can pick up a slightly used one sooner than 2 years away. Not mine though, she's a keeper

Gt3! Gt3! Gt3!

When is the 2nd gen coming out? If soon, I'd just suck it up and wait.

I know this may not be the suggestion you're looking for, but have you considered the C63 AMG with the P31 package? That puts the output up at around 481hp from the factory, and swaps out some of the engine internals with the same parts found in the SLS.

I am in the same boat as you. Have my M3, but it is not a daily driver and I don't feel it is special enough as a weekend car. Also not sure I can justify the $30K price delta between the 997.1 and .2, but this car makes me want to do bad things...

I believe 997.2 GT3 is a 11.7 - 11.8 seconds car in the 1/4 mile with only a N/A boxer 6 3.8 Liter high-revving engine. That is spectacular.

GT3 video with Sharkwerks exhaust.

It just does not get any better than this.

At $115-120K it almost becomes a reasonable!

I know I could not stand being without a fun car for two years, so if you can't stretch for the .2 pick up the .1 right now.

Yeah....according to FastestLaps.com :

997.2 GT3
11.8 1/4 mile
8.2 0-160 KM
12.2 0-200 KM

GTR
11.5 1/4 mile
7.8 0-160 KM
12.1 0-200 KM

As speed increases, the GT3 will be faster and faster.

Like a jack of all trades and master of none.
Michael, I have had every GT3 from the first 2000, MK2, RS, GT2 and 997 GT3.
Great great cars. But not as every day drivers. I always had an M3 or Cayenne as the daily. One time I had an RS and a CSL for daily.

I have sold the sports cars due to kids and well, growing up a little, and the DCT is the closest driving impression thrill/ enjoyment I have experienced to these sports cars.
Do yourself a favour and test drive one, as for the money there is no better car.

You will spend more money on a GT3, and trust me the novelty wears off in three months, then it's not worth the extra money!!

Save cash get a DCT and do the mods you know are right, like coilovers, akra exhaust and an ESS supercharger
