Funny, as I took delivery on June 18, 2008 (March 2008 build I think), and my delivery was delayed a week (I know, a loser tracking his delivery status each day) as my car was not allowed out of the Halifax port onto the train until they put new tires on it as the originals were deemed to be insufficient by transport Canada. Does anyone else remember this issue?
Anyways, I guess I will have mine inspected when I get back home.

How does one go about tracking delivery status from Halifax? My car is due to arrive in Halifax on Tuesday and I am unaware of any way to track it. Thanks.

Your salesperson has access to some limited tracking information on their system - they should know when it arrives in Halifax, when it loads onto a train, when the train leaves etc.

Mine was one of the first cars delivered in March 08 in Vancouver, and I was driving off the dealer's lot on my way home from picking it up when they got a fax from BMW Canada putting a HARD STOP on all deliveries of new M3's because of the tire problem.
Mine was inspected a couple of days later when I went back to the dealer to pick up some accessories and the tires were fine. I know at the time they had no idea why some tires were cracking. They thought it might have been damage caused when the cars were stored on the dock in Vancouver, or that they'd been driven through some chemical that damaged the tires. It seemed to have been a problem limited to cars that were in storage before the official release on March 8th. Mine wasn't stored and had no problems. |

Tires :(
Had mine in for 24K service today and was really hoping for a replacement, as I shredded them pretty good at Calabogie two weeks ago...
No such luck, no cracks, no new tires... Oh well!! |

Calabogie
What an awesome facility!! I was in the advanced group and on Saturday I was quite cautious, never having been to Calabogie and never having driven my E90 M3 on the track (I have lots of experience elsewhere with previous E36 and E46 M3s). I pretty much let everyone pass me until I started to know the track better. It took me the better part of the day to be able to remember where the line should be on the next turn ... there are so many of them!!
On Sunday I started pushing much harder and was lapping very comfortably without needing to let many cars pass. I really want to go back again and get to know the line better. next time I will go with R-compound tires and better brake pads, although my tires and brakes did hold up well. My kudos to the Ottawa and Patroon BMW clubs, as this was an extremely well organized and enjoyable event!! |

Got my letter in the mail today. Not looking like it applies to me, and I'm not about to drive ~1,500 round trip to the nearest dealer....well, maybe

I had mine in for inspection last Friday after receiving the recall letter the previous week in the mail. It checked out fine (which is unfortunate because if they find even one small crack on one tire they replace all four!).
I only have 16K on the car so I'm hoping by the end of the summer the cracks will start to show... |

To make matters worse, my oil level warning came on the next day, telling me I was down a litre. Took it in this am and got some BS excuse about the sensor sensitivity, low viscosity oil...... Tech added a 1/4 litre and said it was fine. What a PITA BMW dealers are. Why not just admit that they didnt add enought oil!! |
