Transport Canada Recall Notice re: Tires

Has anyone received notice of this tire recall yet? A friend just received notice from the dealer today. Glad I survived the day lapping at Mosport on Monday...

I got my notice from BMW Canada yesterday - It appears my vehicle was shipped during the affected time frame and I need to book an appt to have my tires inspected.

Wow, does that mean you have to store the PS2's in a heated environment during winter?

it appears the concern is my vehicle was shipped during -35C temps which could lead to cracking during trasport. It also states:

"...please consult your BMW Retailer with regards to attaining suitable replacement winter tires prior to anticipated temperatures below -15C.`

I store mine in the basement - I am sure a garage is fine too.

Cool. The garage should stay warmer than -15 I guess.

I leave my vehicle stored in the garage for the winter...should I be concerned? Tires are pumped up to 45psi and on wooden planks in order to avoid the flat spots....infact even in the summer days i leave the planks when i park in the garage...i.e. no flat spots ever

I personally wouldnt be concerned - around here were not likely to have consistent extremely cold weather - especially in a protected garage. I know quite a few people who store their cars for the winter and dont even take the precautions you do and havent had a problem.

I think since -35C is fairly extreme they just want to take precautions - they are doing an inspection and if necessary replacing - I looked at my tires and they dont seem cracked - but what do I know

I would assume both - they just mention PS2 - not size - I have 18 - werent your stock 18's as well? Its not everyone - It appears when it was shipped. My car is an 01/08 build.

As far as I know, service departments have been aware of this for a while - had my car (March 08 delivery) in for service last fall and they checked the tires for cracks without me asking them - mine were fine. Although I never received a letter from BMW Canada on this...

I never received a letter either (May '08 delivery). Would be "nice" if I was affected, as my rears are rather worn...

I noticed what seems to be very small tears near the outside tread of my rear tires but never thought anything of it. I think i'll call the dealership and ask. If they end up replacing them i'll be producing a couple of good burnout videos! lol

I just called my dealer and gave them the last 7 digits of my VIN and it showed the vehicle had a recall on it for the tires. So just give your dealer a call and they will let you know. They told me they will need to put the car on the hoist and inspect all 4 tires and order tires as necessary.

I have an 04/08 build and did not get the notice. Although the dealer swapped the 18s on the car for 19s so perhaps best to get them to have a look...
