Btw to anyone whose changed LCI bearings, particularly those bearings that appear to be more heavily worn, would you be interested in doing a little experiment on one of them?
Or I was thinking of offering to pay for shipping one to me from each offer, but the cost of shipping from the US to UK might be prohibitive, but if you're in or near the UK LMK!

Fair to say I changed it in the nick of time I think!, and I'm glad I stopped driving it (in dec 2019

) until I'd replaced the bearings!

yeah very strange its the same pair - and especially that it is so pronounced on the upper halves - being all the way to the copper all over whereas bottoms relatively OK.

that being said, the rest look quite good for an 08 with 122k... (based on this thread)

Was this engine running a SC?

Yea makes you wonder about no1 mains.....

As for the top shells being more worn, that's normal* as a lot more load is taken by those shells when combustion takes place.
*which for most S65s on the early shells often means showing copper, for most other engines you'd normally see a little more wear on the uppers vs the lowers (but very little overall).

BE's wiki is a bit more upto date and has additional info vs the above linked thread.

And yea, don't use OEM. Use BE or ACL, to name 2.

2011 E92 M3. 47k total miles. ~45k completely stock and ~2k miles supercharged. Used only OE 10-60 once a year or every 5k miles, whichever came first. Replaced with BE bearings and BE/ARP bolts.

Unfortunately I just have this low res image of the originals, at a bad angle, with glare.

Err, do you mean you've just had the bearings changed? Or that someone had changed them before you? I doubt the latter though as they look like OEM LCI bearings.

Yes, I mean I changed OEM ones to BE two days ago.

2008 e92 88k. I ran 10w60 and 8000 miles ago treated with RVS technology, the bearings were smooth, like there was a coating of glass on them. We pre treated the new ACL bearings with RVS grease and I'm putting it in the oil again for its 3rd and final treatment [IMG][/IMG]
