I'm going to try fitting the 315 AR1s soon. Hopefully they run true to size like the 295 does.

315/30-18 Hoosiers on 18x11 ET25 wheels don't quite fit under stock fenders. No way its going to fit up front, even with camber at -3.7 its still a ways outside the fender. In the rear it might work with a ET30-33 wheel and a lot of camber.
AR-1 runs narrower then Cup2, A052, even narrower then some street tires.

(All are mounted on 18x11)

The AR1 in my pic were on 10.5" wheels

A set of 295 Hoosier's are cheaper so I think I'll pass, but hoping someone else tries them and reports back lol

I'd also be very interested to hear how they are. But man are they expensive. They'd need to wear like an NT01 and be as fast as a regular Cup 2 to be worth that price. Like Kelse said, you could buy a new set of A7's for cheaper or numerous sets of scrub slicks for that price lol.

Edit: I think Michelin wants in on the growing and super competitive 200tw tire game. I'm sure the tire will be good, but it needs to be VERY good to justify the current prices. On the topic of 200tw tires, I've heard very good things about the new Goodyear F1 Supercar 3 - also a 200tw tire. Someone I know that's a top regional autoxing out here tried them recently and preferred them over the RE71R's and the A052's. Said they were the same speed, subjecting felt better and worn like bricks. Used them for track use and autocross and he loved them. He stepped up to the 3R's to test and difference and unsurprisingly they were faster, but not by much (~1 second around a ~90 second road course) and needed heat to work and didn't wear anywhere as well as the normals 3's. Thought I'd mention this as I know some people are limited to 200tw for certain classes of autox or TT they run. Oh, and they are cheap (especially compared to these new 200tw Cup 2's lol), 240$ a tire for a 275/35R18 on Tire Rack.

305/645 diameter correct? Just want to clarify to be sure since there's 660's and 680's out there if anyone ever references back to this thread someday.
305/645/18. I am running 18x10 et25 though, not 10.5. Pretty sure there's no spacer now since I bumped up to 305
Bro - we need to get you on some 10.5". 305's on a 10" is embarrassing!

I'm pretty sure it's basically going to amount to a slightly hotter, less likely to detonate on track, PS4S, just looking at how it's positioned in the lineup and where they need the coverage. Michelin and BFG are the same company and the BFG's are aimed at the more "hardcore" track people (R1's and Rivals) this would leave the MIchelins positioned as the Fancy Track Pants truly livable dual-duty tire of choice for Mr. Fancy to put on his Fancy car. But yeah. Exponsive

The SC3 seems to be legitimately great as a track tire but it's not a happy rain tire, supposedly, so buyer beware and whatnot

If BFG could release a R1/R1s update it would be pretty nice. The R1 came out before some of us were born!
The R1 probably has the same grip as the newish Cup2 tires

The BFG's when I ran them previous years were really good! Because the side wall was stronger than anything else I've driven on. Car felt predictable (heavy e92 m3) and consistent tires!
The need to bring them back

The BFG R1 and R1S are excellent tires, they seem almost tailor-made for the E9X/F8X cars that are relatively powerful and relatively heavy.

I just wish they took out a R2 and R2S!

Hoosier has such a stranglehold on that market they still have a tough time breaking in, but the people who can use them in SCCA club racing seem to be pretty hot and heavy loyalists. That says a lot because Hoosier is very good at what they do and their grassroots support structure is unmatched. You seem to need to set the car up around them a bit differently from the Hoosier, and sizes are more limited, so there's a chicken and egg problem. Great tires though. If Continental decides Hoosier will be a bike tire company from now on starting tomorrow, we'll be ok. FWIW, the R1S is just as quick as the R7 with the right setup, if not quicker, and wears better than the A7, again, car and setup dependent. Wouldn't put them anywhere near the level of a Cup2 at least not over a race distance the Cup tires aren't going to be there at the end, not even at the middle. The R1 might be a tick behind the R7, maybe two, but again it's a different horse for a different course and it'll be there for an entire race distance, hell people triple stint them in enduros

ANYWAY

One of you nerds needs to buy the Cup 2 Connect 240 and tell me why not to buy it. My contis still won't die but it's not for lack of trying - they're doing that annoying thing Hankooks do and just stopped wearing at 4/32. I don't trust a tire that won't die.

I took one for the team and ran the R888R and the trauma of those shit tires still endures... it'll have to be someone else.

The R1 vs Cup2 comparison is only DEs with 22 min effective sessions. In a 1h session there is no comparison and the R1 is faster for sure. The R1 is quite cost effective, it lasts a surprisingly long time. I'm sure it's cheaper to run than the RE71R and you can still drive to the hotel/gas station with them

Contis... you mean the ECS? I blew through a set of those on my X5 in under 15k miles, it's astonishing.

A non connect version of the Cup2 240 would be appealing. The price would be more reasonable and bring it in line with the top 200tw tires.

IIRC the Connect is just *capable* of accepting the sensors. The Sensors and TPMS-like module for them are still extra and re-used with each set.

The NT-01 predates the current R1 by what, 1-2 years? I bought some R1 in 2007, and they hadn't been available too long before that. I seem to recall getting some NT-01s in 2006. Anyway, both tires have been around a loooong time.

Yup, the same argument could be made for the NT01... where's the NT02??

Agreed. Both tires are due for a refresh. While both are great as is, some modern improvements could make them even better!

After test fitting it on the rear of my car yesterday to make sure it will work with my ride height thanks to XCUSE_M3 I’m pretty certain I’m going to run 295/315 A052 next year on 18x11 (pic is on his e90)
