My error came back. 271A. I can't believe I have to buy again all new solenoid. I just changed it not so long time. I changed in February.

I know when my main bearings spun, the metal bits etc broke all 4 of my vanos. which sucked since 1200 bucks each.
Did this car have any bearing failure in the past?

No, I still have this error. I logged and I checked using proper tools, put it on correct timing, but later, it came back again 271A inlet vanos control
It is stuck in 133 degree, why the bank 2 moves normally from 117 to 140 etc the one does not follow the nominal position, the actual moves only from 133.1 to 133.5 something like this. |

bump up.
I am trying to get it fixed, the error can be cleared. but if i start the engine it bumps on again. My mechanical used the timing tool I bought, he said it is perfect on timing. But I don't know what to do anymore. I am thinking in changing Camshaft position sensor. |

For me, trying to think logically... I generally trust the hall effect sensors are working if angle values change consistently. If it fails, it should yield erratic readings; there are actual tests that can be done using a oscilloscope to verify. If oil temp appears to be a factor, there is also a slight chance that a bit of debris is in the line to the solenoid... Given your alignment being mechanically properly centered but still over rotating, i would suggest checking the condition of the vanos gear bearings (and possibly o-rings if you are not holding pressure). That or.. Replace the entire vanos unit for that bank? Sounds like you have invested a bit already... Not a skilled mechanic.. But these are things i would do... Good luck! |

Have you or have you not replaced the VANOS for that camshaft?

In my experience, if you consistently get vanos codes that can't be logically explained, diagnosed and repaired, you have oil pressure control issues. Most likely due to a failed bearing. ( I've seen it twice in the last 30 days)

I’m getting code 2760 vanos maximum limit position exhaust bank 1. I’m swapping the “bad” vanos unit to bank 2 as we speak. If code follows to bank 2 and clears bank 1, i will replace unit. But if code remains in bank 1 i will replace solenoid for bank 1.

For those of us who had bearing replacements completed and then had issues with vanos codes or reduced engine power, I can almost guarantee the o-ring for the vanos oil pump pick up tube is damaged or missing. This causes air to get picked up and cavitation to occur in the vanos oil pump drastically reducing oil pressure.
The S85 suffers from a similar issue with the vanos oil feed line. It leaks internally so you never know, but you will get vanos codes that won't go away. A damaged or missing pick up tube O-ring in the S65 would cause a similar oil pressure issue, and subsequent vanos codes.

We took apart the vanos twice already and check the timing and it seem fine but keep getting bank 1 intake stuck at maximum spread. We have no idea what it could be.

seriously run a vanos sweep test, and if the min/Max values are incorrect, you have a bad vanos unit, or a bad actuator. since you swapped the actuator already, my guess is a bad vanos unit.

on a serious note, if you don't feel comfortable with your diagnose it, pay a professional to do it and don't complain when he gives you the bill.
