Sounds like a bpv spring is too tight. That fluttering sound is mild compressor flutter (sometimes incorrectly called compressor surge).

That is something I though as well. I'd rather have fresh air from the intake vs some air that has gone through metal manifold? Big difference I don't know.

Only maf based cars require recirculating setups due to having the metered air accounted for. The point of recirculating is to also keep the impeller spinning as when you left off the throttle to shift the throttle plate closes and if there was no bov the air would be forced back against the compressor wheel and cause damage over time. By venting, you release the air to the atmosphere. By recirculating you are dumping the air back into the intake tract that then helps to keep the compressor wheel spinning off throttle.

So after trying this out, I come to the conclusion that it is not to my liking. The "whoosh" sound that comes immediately after letting off the throttle is much louder as compared to when the BPV is recirculated and that much I like. However, as others have said, there is a constant "whistle" sound when off the throttle (for DCT at least) which is super annoying.
I wonder if the BPV tension spring can be adjusted to minimize the constant "whistle" when off throttle? Mine was set at basically fully loose and I didn't want to adjust it too much without understanding if its safe to do so or not. |

How were you loosing boost??? It just shuts and you have boost. If you were losing boost the BOV was broken and leaking. It doesn't matter if it is vented to atmosphere or going back into the blower intake.

My vacuum hose was not connected correctly underneath the manifold. The hose needs vacuum to close that valve, that is what that fluttering noise was.

I was unable to read boost because my gauge was not setup but my butt dyno detected a lot more power when I connected the line. The fluttering sound went away.

Interesting. I'm having the same problem but strangely I can get full boost readings at the line to the bov.

Why does the dct have a constant whistle when the bov vents to atmosphere vs 6mt?
Is it because the computer modulates the throttle to make dct driving smoother vs driver controlled throttle in 6mt? |

On a similar note. I too disconnected the bypass valve connection to the intake as well as the other vent tube (manifold hoses) to the intake. I believe that it's recirculating hot air back into the intake/blower. I used 1in and 1& 1/4in plumbing end caps (rubber caps with metal clamps) to block off the intake holes. I'm trying to do anything to reduce my intake temps.

Ive been using my BPV vented to air in my DCT M3, and I can say that in the first weeks it was awesome...
But now, I just sounds like shi.... Sounds like the car has asma, something like that. Tested it on dyno and it does not change anything, same power, same boost, only a annoying sound when u let the throttle off. The BPV should recirculate cold air, not hot air. I don't know if it's correct, but the air that came off the manifold already passed into the cooling system inside thr manifold right? DCT has this constant whistle because as you know, supercharger is moved by the engine crank, so the only way to make rpm lower is to put it in neutral. when you have a 6MT you can just press the clutch. But believe me, in a highway, this whistle will just make you go nuts! |

But if AIT are 20-30 deg hotter than ambient, the intake air should be cooler or at the very least close to ambient.

I'm not familiar with how the ESS kit does airflow metering, but be careful; you don't want to be venting metered air as it will throw the tune off, make you run rich and lose power. Also, that echoing flutter can be surge from the bpv not opening at all..in which case its a bad thing.

I just gave a shot on this because VF told me that does does not make any difference at all, only that constant whistle. |

Maybe I misunderstood and you may be right. I had interpreted "constant whistle" as always whistling throughout the RPM range, not sitting at idle.

Specially if you are in higher RPM. At idle the BPV is venting air, but you Just can't hear, cause it's not so much air. Above 2k RPM you can hear the whistle, but only if you left the throttle off. With WOT there is not any whistle, cause the BPV is closed to create pressure inside the system. |
