Hello everyone. I'm sure this has been said on some other thread before. But I would like to know what my rod bearings are made of. I have a 2010 m3. Thanks

Sugar and spice and all things nice...

Old ones lead / copper... New ones don't have the copper layer so you can't see the wear as easily.

2008-2010.5 has lead copper bearings.

2010,5-2013 has tin aluminum bearings.

Nobody is really sure of the cut off dates for the switch because some older 2010s had the new bearings while other of the same approximate build date had the old bearings.

Did the crankshaft material change to accommodate the change with hardened bearings?

0.03 microns of tears, 0.1 microns of disappointment and 3mm of money. The outer coating is a 50/50 mix of fear and paranoia.
