Cleaning K&N Air Filter in ESS superchargered M3

I don't disagree. I'm just saying that if the savings is like a gallon of gas it is seems kind of silly to do, even if it is likely to be effective. K&N cleaning kits are at every autozone in the country for like $15 and last many years, and is for sure effective.

Is that filter pre-oiled in factory, or it doesn't require oiling, or one has to oil it before installation?

all k&N filters come preoiled and ready to install, they sell a kit that allows you to clean and re oil called filter recharger.

You can get the cleaner at most auto shops, even Wally World carries it.

If you go to the K&N site, it will tell you the interval in which to clean the filter. They do not recommend cleaning it until dirt is covering or even with the wire mesh. They claim it performs better with some dirt built up.

"When Do I Clean My K&N Air Filter?
Cleaning your K&N Air Filter is not required if you can still see the wire screen on the entire air filter regardless of how dirty it may appear. If you have not experienced a decrease in mileage or engine performance, chances are your K&N air filter is fine and does not yet need to be cleaned. When the screen is no longer visible some place on the air filter, it is time to clean it."

ESS uses their own intake tract and filter, which replaces the factory airbox.

It does look extremely vulnerable low down there in the front bumper - I'm thinking of water ingress and perhaps debris damage. Is this anything to be concerned about?

Perfectly fine for daily driving. Just need to be extra cautious if driving in flooded streets.

ESS/K&N sells a water sock that you can put over your filter. It's on the ESS website.

Still have 3 left.
If I really wanted to save money, I could have one less cup of coffee per year and I would save the same amount as I would trying to clean the filter instead of replacing it.

A new filter is $50 on amazon and a cleaning kit is $11. Have you been able to find the filters cheaper?
