OP, please correct me if I'm wrong but I was told you're on Long Island like we are. If we can help you with materials for the exhaust, when the time comes please let me know. We have what you need in stock. Best of luck. Nick |

I was talking about my dream car being an S65 powered roadster the other day and I decided to google it...and it brought me here. I read through most of this epic thread only to stumble into the tragic ending.
I'm really sorry for your loss. Not that it eases the sting at all, but if you were ever considering building another, I humbly suggested you do! As someone who can say you were building my dream car, a dream car I will likely never have the means to build or buy, I'll be rooting you on should you build another! Epic idea, epic execution on the build! Happy Holidays! |

I am really sorry for your project loss and I do wish you and your family best of luck with your next hot rod project and enjoy this Christmas as much as possible!
Thank you for you posts and updates on your great build, in a way the teething troubles you had with your project also allowed those of us who viewed your build to learn from it. And I do apologize for some of the other forum members who are absolute douche bags such as joem3ssii. It's only a shame they weren't inside your garage when it caught on fire. |

v2.0
Guys your support has been overwhelming and I really appreciate it. Its really helped!!!
So we pulled the chassis out of what was my garage and took it up to Corwith's who was slated to paint the body but instead stripped it down for me so I can use as a model for version 2.0. ![]() While there is no trace of the grille, intercooler, radiator, pedals, supercharger, etc, etc, here is a bit of the carnage of what remains of the rims, brakes, differential and the rats nest that was the wiring harness: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So having rented a truck to pick up the FFR kit in September '14 in Massachusetts and brought it back over the ferry to Long Island, seemed somewhat ironic to load the chassis up in a truck and take it over the ferry back to Mass for the next part of this journey. Here it sits in a bay in Wray Schellin's shop where it will serve as the underpinnings of a wireform buck we will make for the new aluminum body Wray is going to teach me to build!!! After the body is done, will tackle the remake of the chassis. In the end the rebuild will be a total scratch build, but will be done in reverse of the first time around. First, the body, then the chassis and the drivetrain. If all goes according to plan, the metal work should require no filler. ![]() ![]() The theme of v2.0 is a playful version along the following lines: I was building this chassis described in this thread and the to be installed body burned to the ground. Went looking around the old family barn to see what I could find and the hot rodder in me tripped on this old body that looked kind of cool—doors at the top that pre-date the gullwing and GT40 by 2 and 3 decades, a split window and roof line that hint at but pre-date the '63 vette by 3 decades. Decide to tweak it and use it on the chassis only to unveil the car and the purists go nuts as it turns out I was playing with a multi-million dollar artifact--what would be the previously unknown fourth Bugatti 57SC Atlantique body of '36-7 vintage. Here's a couple of versions of the 57SC as well as a mid-restoration shot of the Aerolith prototype. Will go hoodless and fenderless, but will build the coupe as it almost looks in the process of the Aerolith restoration pictured below--on a tweaked version of the chassis I Was building with the mods I've discussed and the BMW drivetrain. Here are a couple of shots of the 57SC and the Aerolith. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In the end, I was pretty pleased with where I got on the chassis and the drivetrain and will leverage that this time and really test my chops shaping some metal. Happy New Year to you all!!! -- I |

Ok now I'm worried this is just a slow, deep troll. You tripped over a BUGATTI in the family barn? I must be missing a detail here. Like "that's the fantasy story?" How about a story about how you burned your car to the ground because you didn't like how one of the turn signals came out

this video on Jalopnik reminded me of a rat rod version of what you're building... hope to see this on Jalopnik once it's resurrected and done |

So the new build is underway! Found a full set of plans on the net. Blew them up to full size (7X30 feet) on vinyl. Starting to trace, then bend to put together the wire buck. If you grew up dreaming of building a full aluminum body from scratch, Wray Schelin’s shop is heaven. Building next to an old Deusenberg getting a new body with an XK120 right behind it. And the shop goes past midnight every day! I took Wray’s class a couple of weeks ago. Four jam-packed hands-on 16 hour days (from 9am till 1am)—exhausting, but incredible and highly recommended. Took this week off to get a real jump, 10 days at 16 hours a day I might need a vacation from my vacation!
