Megan Cat back yay or nay?

I'm looking to get a Megan catback for my e92, but would like to hear with people generally recomend them or not.

Before people jump on and say use the search function, I have, and have read most of the threads about them that come up. The problem is that people put pics and write about them when they first put them on, and then that's it, there nothing written about longtemr experiences etc.

Opinions on the Megan cat back would be appreciated

At $500 I dont think you can really go wrong from what I have heard on youtube etc. Everyone that has one also seems to be impressed with the quality, welds, sound. I been looking at megan for a while but just havent pulled the trigger due to shipping to australia costing as much as the exhaust itself!

I've heard one in person and it's not anything wonderful. I would do the oem mod, cost about 200 bucks and a can of black high temp paint for your stock muffler. Save yourself some money, plus it sounds fantastic.

You can actually change out tips as well on your OEM setup for an asthetic change.

Megan rear box + Turner Test Pipes is what I have, sounds great IMO, will try and get a video of it if you want.

You get what you pay for. To do only cat backs is mostly for sound, then You will loose some weight and gain a little bit of performance. I do not think Megan does a good job on the sound. Of course it's what you like and that's why there are many exhausts with different sounds. Personally I didn't like it compared to other ones. Check the drone. I have heard its high. I would save for a used AA or similar.

Two out of the 4 responses don't even own the exhaust. I will take the Pepsi challenge any day of the week with my exhaust setup.

The Megan is really an Agency exhaust for a 1/3 of the money. I have had mine on my car now for over 4.5 years with no issues. I had it on my 2011 M3 and now my 2013 M3. The car sounds great with test pipes. If you just do the Megan the exhaust has a nice tone but it is to tame for me. If you couple it with the test pipes the sound is pretty darn near perfect. The drone is not bad with the test pipes, yes its there at the 2200rpm range but its not that bad. Here is a video with the Megan and test pipes.

I say Yay. My friend has one on his E90 M and it sounds great, looks good too. For the price, there's not really much to think about. It has the looks, sound and quality is pretty good. I say Megan matched with test pipes does the trick.

Yea I'm in NZ so, same problem as you, although shipping through some vendors on EBAY are not that bad

When you say it's really an Agency exhaust for 1/3 the price, what do you mean by that?

Your video gave me shivers down my spine

I've already got an ACM modded back box, I'm trying to avoid doing test pipes because driving without primarys where I live is a pain and I don't really want to have get a tune. Not doing this for performance, I want more noise. I used to run an RS4 Avant with un resonated miltek, and although the M3 is better in most ways, I miss that proper grumbley V8 sound and howl

I say yay. I recently just got one with the black chrome tips (+$100) and I haven't got anything bad said about it. I almost feel like it's too quiet at times.

Did someone say OEM mod over the megan? LMAO.

My E92 just got rear ended and it took out my megan exhaust I had ceramic coated black. So I ordered a new one and had it ceramic coated too but now they have rounded black chrome tips.

Get the megan. I got mine for 600 from import image racing in FL to avoid tax and will called it from Megan themselves.

Agency power buys the exhaust from Megan under private label and sells them for 1800 bucks. No one is supposed to know that, but it is what it is.

Im on the same boat. For $500 you can improve the sound and shave some weight. Oh and you can get rid of the ugly looking chamber as well. I say go for it!

PS agency power is the same exhaust

I was going to either do the megan or the OEM mod. I am not a fan of the megan sound. Hell i dont even like the OEM mod (2 pipe method) that much either.

Save your money for something better..

I had the Megan CatBack on for 6 months.
The build quality is good.. sound is not good. Its more of a muscle car sound than
any other I have heard and it became clear to me that its not a tuned exhaust meaning
I really don't think they spent much time on r&d refining the product with sound and performance in mind.. hence the cheap price.
Why do I say that?.. As soon as I swapped out the Megan Cat Back to a Borla Atak I noticed the car running better and it seems the top end is a tad bit stronger. Not night and day but enough for me to think the Megan is not a good solution for M3 and could have actually been hindering performance a bit. The Borla sounds night and day better also. I would guess 95% of catbacks available are better sounding than Megan on M3.

WOW that sounds pretty damn good!!!!!!! Hear it for yourself before you judge. ..and Dave07997S has had it for 4.5 years so clearly the quality is there too.

I had a Megan exhausts on my E90 M3 for about 2 weeks, or about 14 days longer than I wanted because the damn thing was crooked. Megan sent me a replacement and again, it wouldn't sit straight.

It sounded great but I would make sure it fits correctly.

This is correct. I have it with no cats and no resonator, but before the cat delete i was throughly happy. and its agency power...... just like stated above.... Dont let the "its cheap its crap" thing get you..... tubing is more or less tubing...
