Anyone ever swap a 08 DCT transmission into an 09?

LMAO, there is no way that DCT is more reliable than 6mt bro. I saw many DCT M3s on the track had overheat issue on their tranny. The DCT overheated even faster than the brake. They had to pit in because the dash turned into Christmas tree mode.

lol. i wish it were as straightforward as SMG->6 speed on the e46 m3. i'll keep everyone updated on the progress.

The transmissions are compatible between cars. We sourced a 2009 transmission for our customers 2008 M3. The transmission worked perfectly. The BMW ICOM tool was need to do the swap.

I can contact him to see if there was a special procedure on the ICOM to marry these two together.

Aaand it's fixed!

The new transmission harness and new drive speed/temp sensor did the trick! The paddles are working perfectly now. I also have all new o-rings, gaskets, lower pan, mechatronic gasket, and fluid so I should be set for a while

And for future reference: there is a difference between 2008 and 2009+ transmissions within the harnesses. The early transmission harnesses do not have a ground wire in the harness and rely on an external ground while the 2009+ ones do. If you bolt a 2008 transmission into a newer car you will have to add/run a ground wire yourself OR replace the the transmission harness entirely. Otherwise the transmission will not power up. Just hoping this info helps someone else in the future and saves them a ton of headache.
