MDM is actually useful...
... when using power in normal mode. On a tip from a forum member I decided to try using the normal power mode on the track instead of sport or sport plus.
it made a huge difference. when using sport plus power and MDM, TC would light up and cut power as soon as I got on the gas coming out of a turn. when using normal and MDM, I was able to get on the throttle and unwind the wheel at the same time finding the balance between throttle and steering. MDM cut in appropriately a few times when I was clearly too aggresive with the throttle and/or steering. MDM still wont let you go into full drift mode or execute purposeful sliding, but I was able to take turns at the limit of tire grip without MDM cutting in. I was really surprised. I had given up on MDM, until this past weekend. I hope to try again when I'm more familiar with the track and can drive more aggresively to see how much I can push the car and still have fun with MDM on. the throttle mapping is just plain dumb. I don't need a computer telling me how aggresive to push the throttle, that's what my right foot is for. sport plus is pretty much useless outside of drag racing. it's just full throttle or nothing. |

It took me about a year of tracking my car in Sport throttle mode before somebody clued me in to use Normal. I could tell I was noticeably faster my very first session in that setup and I haven't gone back. It took a little while to adjust to needing a larger heel-toe blip on downshifts, but that was a very fast adjustment.
That plus Euro MDM, Sport steering, and either Normal EDC for tracks with elevation changes or Sport EDC for flat tracks (I don't have ZCP) has made for a very capable, fun, and predictable setup. ![]()

I always use normal on the track. Sport and + are way too sensitive. Sport + is great on the street though. Makes it easy to rev match and practice my heel/toe without having to bury the throttle.

anytime when i used to get to the limit of tire grip (screeech) during a turn, the screeching would go away (MDM intrusion! even though light was not flickering)....with DSC OFF, its a nice constant tire screech now...no cutting in and out.
which track event did you go to? |

I'm a member of the sharp throttle fan camp. Can see how normal might be more of a match with mdm traction though

LOL, well, that's sort of what I was thinking when I read it. I went out for a drive and played with the MDM and realized it was the same thing. With the power button it's on or off, MDM has three options, so I wasn't 100% sure it was the same. I basically never use the Power anymore, but I do hit it once in a while for giggles.

on some turns the screech goes away. like you said, where the limit was approaching faster it went away - on sharper turns at higher speeds it did. otherwise it was good. cota is a much bigger and wider track than buttonwillow where the op was and where i experienced this. i try to be smooth so i dont think i was too abrupt on the steering - if i was it prob wouldnt have needed too much correction since im pretty much doing the same thing now but at higher cornering speeds but dont need to correct. and the differnce between screech and SCREEEEEECH (about to spin) is pretty huge. |

Saved By The Bell Anyone?
This may only mean something to the older generation, but I'm smiling at all the screeching being referenced in this thread.

Search "Screech" and "Saved By The Bell" in Google Images and you'll better understand it's a reference to a (bad) '80's sitcom.
I'm intrigued by the tip though and plan to compare lap times in the different modes asap. |

I see. But you should post your own image next time. That way we will understand how the real troll looks like.

I have an really like Euro MDM.
In addition to everything said from a track perspective, it's fantastic for higher HP (S/C) applications when flooring from a dig. It allows some wheel slip but will prevent all out roasting of tires which will always happen with DSC off. With MDM off, the system will apply too much brakes when flooring it. So anytime I want to do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds rain or shine, I just turn Euro MDM on and floor it.
