Thinking to get an E90 M3 M DCT for my daily driver. I prefer the look of E92 better but I need a practical 4 door car. But who knows?! ;)

I love ///AMG C63:
Exhaust note!!! one of the best sounding stock exhaust ever!:D
Straight line performance and torque is pretty darn good!:D
Seats fits me like a glove but annoying when I reach my hand for stuff at rear
4 door = practical

I dislike ///AMG C63:
auto box is slow. I love dual clutch cars. MCT is coming out this summer. :(
handling is not very " direct " steering feedback is not very good to me.
major facelift is coming out this summer. MCT, interior, head/rear lights. :mad0260: I just got this car. :mad0260:

Coming out from P car family, I really care about handling. I had 996 C2, Cayman S, 997 C2, now a 997TT. I always loved E36,46,92 M3's. I like the exterior/interior style much better than any AMG car.

Couple of questions :)

1. Will I regret from switching from AMG to ///M?
2. Will I feel lack of torque compare with AMG?
3. Will I like the M DCT? I love PDK, S-Tronic, DSG, how about M DCT?
4. Will I feel it is worth for me to get M3 DCT as I will get huge hit on depreciation.:(
5. How fast really is M DCT? compare with Ferrari's 60ms, PDK's?
6. There won't be a special version of the M3 will we? Since M3 is out in 07. CSL cost a fortune.
7. Lastly, We won't be able to see the new M3 until 2013 I assume?

Thank you for any inputs!
1. Definiatly not. That v8 revving to 8,400 will give you chills lol.
2. Theirs plenty torque in the m3. Some people say its not the same as the twin urbo but its very good for this car.
3. M DCT is BEAUTIFUL because your mating a rev matching dct with a high revving motor. Sounds AMAZING.
4. DCT FTW. Youll end up wanting to keep the m3 ;P
5. Buddy instant shifts. Fast as PDK. Better then lambos single clutch and ferraris single clutch
6.I dont belive soo... i mean theirs some special editions but nothing major.
7. Im not sure. But i would take this model (v8) over any turbo. It sounds amazing
Before i leave The State i had CL63 considiring that ;

1.you ll not , M drivebility way much more fun then AMG cars.
2.you ll kinda stock M's wouldnt give you the same torque as AMG. (pressure etc..) except first 2 gears :)
3.M-DCT should owns that PDK day and night.
4.DCT cars are awesome , you ll not regret at all.
5.its just like F-1 cars , shifts are bam bam you cant even count or how fast it shifts..
6.no need it at all not worthy.
7.i assumed the same 2013-2014 , thats why i got my car. :)

GL there,
I hated duel clutch transmissions. Great for track but terrible because it doesn't skip shift. For my driving style i like to accel really hard and then criuse. The duel clutch gets confused not knowing if i'm going to upshift or downshift thus delay shift. Very annoying IMHO.

If going auto I like the C63 better. I have a GT3RS for steering feels, drving feel whatever but as a daily driver the C63 is nicer due to the monsterous torque. Just don't forget the LSD.

I personally may pick the M3 with the manual stick, cloth seats and competition package over the C63 because of the manual tranny.
I say take a Z4 for a spin a 35i or 35is you will love it.

I came from a e46 to a e85 then e86 I simply love the Z4 you owe it to yourself to give it a try.

Thank you Jono! Yes I heard the M3 with aftermarket exhaust it sounded pretty damn sweet. But I gotta admit C63 stock is pretty amazing at any decibel. M DCT, I test drove today for 15 minutes. I didn't really go fast. Yes it feels faster than 430's single clutch. I set the - + all the way up. It feels quite fast like PDK, S tronic, etc. It's very fun just click the button. :D:D But how come I never heard anybody talking about M DCT? Always PDK, F1, etc. Just no BMW's. :confused2 do you know the correct " ms " for M DCT? :)
I'll be switching from a C63 AMG to an E92 M3 late summer. I'm just ready for something different.

I already drive with the paddles on the C63 and am very ready for faster shifting via MDCT.

I don't think I'm going to miss the torque as much. After three years it has been fun but the downside is lots of wheel slip which doesn't help handling. It's also not fun to replace the rear tires every 6000 miles.

Both of these cars are fun as hell and I'm just glad to get the chance to drive both of them.

GL there,
thanks buddy! I love the bam bam bam shifting sensation:D I figured it's fun to drive! Lack of hp/tq tho. How is it in real world? Not gonna debate on YouTube clips:lol: your e93 must be lovely!!

If I had the means I'd definitely keep both.
C63 is fast, but fairly boring to drive. M3 is much more fun as the feel from the drivers seat is much sportier and direct/connected.
addressing these concerns:

Seats: you'll also have the same issue in the M3

MDCT - it's fast, you realized 60 ms is faster than an eye blink? I'm not sure the M3's speed (maybe in the 100s ms?), but a eye blink is 300-400 ms, you will not notice a difference.

MCT- you probably will notice a significant difference from your C63. The SL63 AMGs have them now, never tried it, maybe you can test drive one?

Torque: read: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157633

Depreciation: I never buy new cars, why the hell would I buy a depreciating asset at it's highest depreciating point (when it's new)? makes no sense to me. A new E90 costs about $67k here in US, I paid $46k cash 2 years later for one with 8k miles and babied it's whole life. makes sense to me. My last car (Evo8) which I bought 1 year old, came out to cost about $120 per month of usage after I sold it, including tax, excluding insurance/gas/maintenance costs. You can't even lease most cars at $120/month any more, let alone a high performance car.

Sorry to say but I wouldn't do it. IMO the c63 is soooooo much cooler than the m3.

The m3 may have the edge dynamically but it will never sound as good nor stir the soul like the big v8 merc.

mdosu, thanks for the link! I guess 63's got extra 37hp and more torque but so what? the sluggish gearbox and the fun to drive factor is different. MCT will be out and it is going to kick some straight line ass times. factory claim 0~100km 4.5sec With MCT, probably 4.2 4.3sec It's okay. My 997TT can make up for it. :)

man, I agree with you. It's best in the world to have both i guess. ;)
MCT C63 will definitely kick some ass!!!

I always like Z4. I also never owned an open top before!! There's actually a black on red interior 2010 Z4 35i here locally with low mileage. Do they have the same DCT? or M3 equipped with M DCT while 35i is just DCT?
But damn I think 35is looks better on paper. :happyanim:
M3 driver friendly and DCT is just sheer amazingnesslycoolstuffs lol
