Car will not start. HELP!

Hello all,
First off, thank you all in advance, I have used this forum in the past to help me and in need of help again.

Here is the situation:
1. Woke up early in the morning to go to the gym, and the car starts up fine to and from the gym.
2. Went to work and again everything starts up.
3. Went to go get gas, filled up the tank and then it did not start up immediately. I must have pressed the start button 30 times and it finally fired up. Then I went to work.
4. I needed to go to my other office, and the car will not start. I hook up jumper cables, and the car struggles but starts. I went to my other office, left the car running and then went home.
5. I park the car in my garage, at this time I assumed it was my battery, so I bought a replacement, and registered it. The car did not start.
6. I hook up carly and get the following codes
- 00278D and 00A0C1
7. Spoke to a few people and searched on this forum, and I decide to change my starter.
8. Starter was replaced, and the car will not start, I run carly and get the following:
- 00A0B4: error engine start starter operation
- 00A0C1: Driver KL50L KS
- 00278D: Generator communication
at this point I am at a complete loss, I get the two previous codes and a new one. At no point the car has spit out an error message, unlike in the past, when my alternator went I got feedback from the car.... any help would be appreciated....

I did read that thread, I just changed my alternator a few years ago
Checking the fuses and main ground today.

How did you register the battery?

I've read that Carly has trouble registering batteries, and although it acts like it does it... it actually doesn't.

I wonder if this fried your alt... or fried the new battery.

Alright. more bad news.
I had the old starter checked and the new one as well and they both work.
I get voltage across the constant on the starter, however, if everything is disconnected (spark plug, injectors etc, etc...) and I try to check the voltage across the starter input plug, will it send a signal??

Could you clarify what you mean? Are you asking if the starter will try fire up if one of the plugs is unplugged?

Also, some people have reported that the engine would die after filling up at the station when their fuel tank breather valve was faulty... Part number 13907838281

(Super easy to replace if this is the culprit, just right underneath the plenum).

Also, did you use Carly to program the new battery?

update:
the positive battery terminal had severe corrosion, I replaced the terminal and hooked everything back up.
I only replaced the terminal end, should i replace the whole thing?
the only code i am getting now is 00A0b4: error engine starter starter operation.
i was check all the fuses in the glove compartment and on the start, stop box, it list 85 which is a 30amp fuse, mine was not there...should there be a fuse there???

I believe that if there was a plug/coil disconnected, it would still send a signal to the starter. This is typically how one checks for compression... Cylinder by cylinder.

Did you use Carly to register your battery?

I did use carly....if the positive battery cable was corroded, would it trip the fail safe on the cable? I read in an accident the one way fuse would trip. Your car would still power up but not let you start the engine....

How badly was it corroded? Any photos?

Also, I would reset/register the battery using a real scanner... Many people have said that Carly has a glitch when registering batteries.

I don't have pictures but the nut was basically gone and the connector was almost gone...the post is still intact

Are you getting any trouble codes now?

If so, what are they?

I ordered a new positive battery cable, getting it tomorrow...i will keep you posted...did you fix your problem?

Update: the New positive battery cable did not solve the issue. I am tapping out and bringing it to Motorhaus in WPB...

Before you do that... I'd stop by an Autozone or O'Reilly and have them test your battery and alternator (both free tests).

I know you have a meeting battery and already did the alternator, but it won't hurt (either one can cause wacky issues like this).

Also, I would get a real scanner and register the battery properly (Carly has issues registering batteries).

Finally, check the fuse box for any blown fuses.

00A0C1: Driver KL50L KS

This sounds like a CAS problem. In fact the entire thing does. Do you have ISTA? This could easily be diagnosed with ISTA. I wish you lived closer. I have ISTA D and P. You may be able to flash the module in ISTA P to get it working again. Otherwise I'd plan on a new CAS or using a repair service for a few hundred. That will LIKELY fix your issue. I cant promise, but I think thats what you're looking at.

Please update back when you discover the issue!

Everyone saying to replace the battery, starter, or register the battery, please walk yourself out.

This is a tough one but I found a thread with owners having similar issues on e90 post.

Simplest check is solid ground, so add a jumper between engine and body. This worked for some.

Next one person had an issue with the clutch switch faulting so it didn't let the car start but another person tried the same fix and didn't work.

If you try to boost and it starts it's likely corrosion on the cable that runs from the post to the starter.

Worst case one person replaced CAS and DME for it to fix.

Any of these could be the issue, so smart troubleshooting is needed to rule out what exactly is the problem.

If you have ISTA and an ICOM or Bimmer Geeks expert cable then you can try reflashing the entire car. It MAY work, but I couldn't tell you for sure. I've updated problem modules before (and bricked ones) and it worked. The cable can be found below:
