LUX H8 160 Install - Bonus X5 Content

I originally bought the Lux V1s back in 2008 for my April delivery M3. I've run them basically seven long years and the front left finally gave out. I haven't done much to the M3 as of late, save for a couple cosmetic things mid last year (sidemarkers, LCI tails and coding).
I was already looking at getting some updated AEs for my M3 and X5d late last year and had talked with LUX and they mentioned they had some new stuff coming out, so I waited. F'ing glad I did.
I was running the V2 LUX's with the V3 power receptacle in my X5 since 2010. They were still operational and serving me well, but the new models out now are so much better and brighter.
I took some comparison pics, but they probably aren't very relevant to many as I doubt there are a lot of owners out there running these older LUX models. Nonetheless, they were good comparison pics for me and to show where the LUX models are now.

These things are hella bright and some of the pics don't capture the complete white light these bulbs produce. I walked about 200 feet away from my M3 and the rings were exactly uniformly lit and insanely bright. They definitely look a lot like the newer BMW model lights and they modernize the front of the M3 really well. Between these and the LCI tails, I'm extremely happy with how much more updated my M3 looks now at 7 years old.

New bulbs and comparison to V1s. And yes, that is my white X5 on the business card.

Passenger V1, driver's side H8 160. You can see how much fuller and brighter the new LUX's are.

X5, tried this one in the garage to give some different lighting perspective.

Both of your cars look great and I love how LUX finally came out with brighter AE's!
Also, are these H8 160's also referred to as their V5's?
Thanks for sharing the pics!

Thanks. The V5's are their color adjustable line and are down a little bit on the Lumen rating. The 160s are if you are looking for the match to the newer BMW AE's.

Got it, thanks. Btw these 160's that you just put on your E92, do they have a green hue to them at all or is it just the pics?

No green hue at all. It was hard to capture, but these are pure, pure white if you saw in person. They look amazing.

Clean... waiting for mine to arrive too (replacing factory halogen)... only catch as they get brighter is the differential from inner and outer ring gets worse. Really drives my OCD nuts. OEM filament bulb seems to do a better job balancing the brightness on both rings.

Damn. These are awesome!

Im running the old V3's and will definitely jump on these for the stronger output.

Always preferred Lux to anything else out there

when you have a chance, can you park your car side by side with an actual BMW OEM LED car, and take a few photos of a head on and angled shot?

I've asked Lux to do it...and you'd think the guy selling it would do it to show you how close or fantastic their product looks compared to the OEM...

thanks!

btw, I have the same combo of cars as you do. E90 M3 and E70 X5 here. Except I have a LCI X5 Diesel, so I already have OEM LEDs

IRL the rings are evenly distributed. Tough to capture exactly in pictures.

I'd be interested to see the x5 from a angled view as the x5 has the worst ring design in respects to not evenly distributing.

Not even bad.

99.9% of the AE "upgrades" on here are laughable. These are the 0.1%.

I'm reserving this judgment until I see side-by-side of OEM LCI vs LUX H8

I'll follow suit. Sorry, OP. You aren't the 0.01%. Yet.

AE are pointless anyway. I have mine disable during the day.

You both are correct. They are pointless and cool and the same time.

At least if they're pointless, you can have something cool

When I drive my LCI X5, I get tons of people pointing at my lights and making a comment to their friend/wife/coworker they are with. No kidding.

In SF? Where X5s are like Civics? People should get out more.

Conversely, I had someone tell me that mine were broken the other day.

oh yeah, there are less LCI X5s rolling around here than non-zcp M3s.
