Road Atlanta March 8-9, anyone?
Anyone heading to Road Atlanta with Peachtree chapter next weekend?
First event of the year for me. Doing my daily driver to track conversion this weekend: Pagid RS19 front and rear, will try PF front discs for first time (I'm still on stock brakes). Yokohama AD08R 255F and 275R for first time (RE-11s previously) Brake flush (running Motul 600, previously Castrol SRF, was fine, but not any better than other high temp fluids) Need to get to VIR soon too especially with their new pavement. |

Today was my track prep day: new StopTech rotors up front, new Pagid RS29s up front, Motul 600 flush, and power steering fluid change. Sadly, no new rubber. I'm heading back to VIR May 16-18 with First Settlers PCA for their instructors clinic on Friday. Can't wait to see the new pavement (and paddock--no more sand!!)

How are the PCA guys? I haven't run with them for ages. I've heard, but not confirmed that they are getting "very conservative" at their DE events and that they are a bit more restrictive about what each group can do. Is this true?
I'd love to go in May but have travel at that time, need to find anther group. I think Bimmerworld is running a race class in April. Audi club runs a good event there but I'm not sure when they are scheduled. |

Actually I've never run with PCA but have heard that they can be rather, ah, anal about running their DEs. However, a friend of mine turned me onto this opportunity to get a national PCA instructor certificate at the VIR event, which hopefully will get my foot in the door for other organizations, namely my local BMW CCA (which I'm finding hard to get into).
TrackDaze is running Full Course there May 31-June1...

Peachtree BMW CCA was one of the best organizations I've ever ran with. Driver's are very comfortable on track and not afraid to pass or be passed anywhere.
Peachstate PCA on the other hand, I was less than impressed with their event. It's their event and they can run it however they like. I would not go back to one of their events or recommend them to anyone. First Settler's Region PCA on the other hand is an awesome organization. I assume that is who you are doing the National Instructor Clinic with at VIR? I did that in 2010 with Pete Tremper(he does all of them). It was a really good clinic. I hope you guys have a good time. I miss RA and VIR. |

^ Yes, its First Settlers Region PCA, Alex Bell is the Chief Track Instructor. I'm looking forward to it! VIR is my absolute favorite track.
And yeah, Peachtree BMWCCA is my home-group at RA and does run a good program. P.S. Brent, that RX7 sounds killer in that vid!!

Yep, Alex has been their CDI for a while. Amazing how much of a difference their is between PCA chapters. Unfortunate to hear my encounter with Peachstate was not an isolated one.
Thanks! It's amazing how much better RX7's sound with a V8 ![]() |

Ah, that makes sense, coulda had a V8!
I had a '79 RX-7 for 10 years and that little Wankel never made that kind of beautiful sound! What engine did you drop in there?

I put an LS1 engine in it from a C5 Corvette. I use to run TTS/ST2 with NASA, which only measures hp and weight, and got tired of getting killed by the Vettes with the same hp and 100+ ft-lbs more than me. Putting the LS1 in just means it's one less excuse I have
I still have a couple of rotary RX-7's though. Love the engine, but they can be finicky and really force you to stay left of the bang. |

Video of me running off
I was looking for opinions on me running off.
I haven't been driving for long this is my 6th DE. The car in front of me gave me a late pass, then I didn't move over in front of him. When I realized I wasn't going to make the turn I decided to run off straight rather than trying to try a real hard jerk of the wheel. Opinions are welcome but please make them constructive. |

Looks to me like you early apex'd, and got pushed out of the turn.

I agree. Thats what happens when you apex too early, you run out of the road. You passed him late and i understand was off the racing line, but you could have slowed down a little more in that situation and it would be easier to hit the apex. But you did the right thing, after you realized that it was too late to make that turn to go straight instead of turning your steering wheel more, which would be a disaster for sure. Its a good thing there was enough run off area.

At that line, can't carry the momentum as you could in a racing line.
