Key ignition vs Wireless

I just picked up an 08 M3 this saturday, so i have a couple noob question. I usually start my car without putting the key in the ignition. What differences or purpose from starting the car wireless vs actually putting the key in the ignition?

Also, i only drive my car on the weekends friday, sat, and sunday, and leave the car in my garage mon-thursday. Would this have any negative effects on any components of my car? My friend only drives his M-Z4 once every couple weeks, so he hooks up his battery to this unit that is connected to a wall jack in his garage to keep his battery "active". Would it be suggested i need to do the same?

Welcome aboard. Your car has Comfort Access. You can open the doors/trunk w/the key in your pocket, and start the car that way, as well. No difference that I'm aware of really, between that and inserting the key.

Sounds like your buddy has a battery tender. Our cars are notoriously fussy about the electronics and the battery.

A battery tender is a good thing to have on a car that doesn't get driven much. The battery's life is shortened when the car is not driven a lot. I can't quantify how much its shortened.

Congrats man! I got a question though, recently when I don't put my key in the ignition it says I need to change my key fob battery or recharge it I think. Can we just open the key and put a new battery in it or??

Yes. The back opens up. Remove the key from the rest of the housing. You'll see a little slit to pop open the back. Battery type is a 2032.

I almost always just put my key fob in the ignition because I hate seeing that message pop up lol. Idk if its the low battery in the key fob also but my comfort access on the driver side door barely wants to work where as my passenger side seems to work as one would think. Aka walk up with the key in my pocket and touch the handle and both doors unlock. Driver side I have to pretty much have the fob in my hand
