RaceRender 2: Inaugural Project: Free track at VIR
I just completed my first successful project using RaceRender2 on my i-Mac.
The source video is from my ContourHD camera and the data file from Harry's Lap Timer. Problems/fixes I had: 1) RaceRender didn't recognize the .mov file direct from the Contour camera. Once it had passed through i-movie, and the movie uploaded from the i-move "events" file, RaceRender recognized the video, but not the soundtrack. Once I converted the i-movie 'project' (as opposed to an event - the raw footage) to an MPEG-4 file, RR2 recognized the video and the audio. I used the .mov file for video (it seemed better quality) and the .mpeg-4 file for the sound. Not sure what happened in the first place, but I got a usable work around to get the clip made 2) RR2 had an issue with the data recording time starting at 59:59:30.2 and rolling over to 00:00:00.00. This caused the data read to freeze at the endo of the first lap. This can be corrected in the .csv file exported from HLT. RaceRender released an update that overcame this reading issue. I also adjusted the LAP_INDEX field to adjust for the session, otherwise it would have started at lap 31/38, instead of 1/8. 3) Syncing the data was straightforward, just remember to adjust the field you are syncing. I had a problem with the lateral and lineal G data lagging in the data file. I fixed this by cutting and pasting these columns from the .csv file into a new file and using that as the source for this data. Remember to copy the lap time data with this, as this is the index RR2 uses to track the data. This allowed me to adjust the G-load data and align it with the footage. I had to advance the HLT data file and video-audio file 2 seconds to allow enough "lag" to afford the adjustment. I just picked up the GoPoint BT1 OBDII bluetooth sensor that works with HLT for the next time, so I should get revs and throttle position next time out. Of course, it I got an i-phone with 32GB storage in the first place, life would be easier - there isn't room on a 16GB phone for music, photos and 3 days HLT overlayed video! Last but not least, RaceRender technical support was outstanding in helping me out with issues. Very responsive to e-mails. I went from "f**k me, I just wasted $25 to this is pretty cool! - I am looking forward to playing with it some more". Now do I want to make my own custom dials with the super-duper version for an extra $10 - do I really need ///M logos on my rendered dials???
