Can't handle drone any longer!!

Fellow M3posters,

I cannot handle the drone on my Remus race exhaust any longer. I started a similar thread a few months ago and have done nothing about it and now I've reached a tipping point! The note no longer outweighs the incessant hum that hurts my ears. I know I know I am getting old!

That said, I don't want to resort to my stock exhaust quite yet. To this effect I would love some suggestions based on my tastes.

1. I can't handle the balls hanging looks of either the m performance or the acm exhaust mod. I know black paint is an option but it doesn't beat cans.

2. I love slanted chrome tips as on my Remus and would love to retain them if possible.

3. I've considered Dinan but can't get over two non functional tips and not a fan of black exhausts in general.

4. I would like to be reasonable with my budget so a new akra or the valve tronic systems are out of the question.

I eagerly await your inputs

Any race exhaust drones. Don't let others fool you. I have been there before. And drone is like a toothache. It's keeps getting worse and worse

B&B has slant tips and sounds great withoutl much drone. Another option would be to see if an exhaust shop can weld in a couple Heimholtz chambers somewhere along the way.
Race exhaust are just too loud for me.

Sorry you can not tolerate the drone of the Remus race, for my part, I think it is invasive only at low speed and under low load ... the other 7000 rpm, the remus race cat back is probably the most under-estimated system; it's sound very good, but very loud.

Not quite sure what you mean here... My MPerf certainly doesn't make it look like there's a sack dangling from underneath my car when I'm driving around... lol

Regardless of whether or not you go with an OEM or can-style exhaust, there are many lower budget non-drone exhausts out there. You just need to hear them yourself first so you can choose the sound that YOU prefer. IMO, the MPerf and Akra sound the best to me. But again, that's just me. Exhausts are the most subjective mod out there. Your best bet is to try to get involved in a car club, or meet other members to hear the different exhausts for yourself, then decide.

Good luck!

What's your price range because a used akra will get you close in price to some new exhausts.

I think I would be willing to spend between $2K and $3K for the perfect setup

I appreciate the input. I was under the impression that the cans on the M performance are virtually identical to the stock exhaust in terms of size. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Here's a good video that has shots of the exhaust from the rear. Pretty flat bottom.

AA Signature drones pretty bad down low so everytime you take off from first, it's annoying. I'd look into sport exhausts, there's a lot of options out there. If you want loud and no drone I can tell you that the Borla Atak delivers. My personal fave is the MPE followed by Corsa. Painting the cans do wonders in eliminating the low hangers. Here's a couple of shots of my MPE, I love everything about this exhaust!

I'll have my B&B up for sale in the next day or two. I've loved it, but just looking for a minor change for the new E92 that is arriving shortly.

Getting the Challenge Sport x-pipe actually reduced the drone and boominess of my Tubi Rumore exhaust.
