Alarm Retrofit - Major Problem!!!
PLEASE HELP!!! Purchased OEM Euro alarm retrofit kit from Euroactive for 3/2009+ cars (not pre-wired) and installed exactly to BMW's instructions/specs. When dealer went to code/activate the alarm, the entire electircal system in the car crashed. I installed the kit myself and was EXTREMELY careful to make sure everything was done exactly to the installation instructions so I know for a fact that nothing was installed incorrectly.
Has anyone else run into an issue like this? Has anyone been successful in retrofitting an OEM alarm kit to a 3/2009+ E90 M3?? This sucks. ![]() |

Car operated perfectly fine after install and connection. Drove approx. 10 miles to dealer for simple coding/activation. Everything worked as normal including keyless entry, comfort access, DCT nav, radio, etc. Just didn't have audible chirp or blinking clown nose LED but thought that stuff would come on after coding.
Spoke to tech at HH BMW late in the day who told me that they were able to get some of the systems back on line but for some reason the computer is reading that the hood switch is open. He even went so far to swap the switch out with one from another M3 on the lot but no luck. He asked what I did with the hood switch that was there but there never was one. The slot in the DS cabin filter housing/cover was empty and there were no wires in the area. He said that maybe there is antoher hood switch somewhere that is interfering with the one installed with the retrofit kit but I am not aware of one. Either way, the car will not stay in gear because its reading an open hood and the alarm wont work for the same reason. Car still at the dealer. Does anyone know if there is a hood switch/sensor somewhere on non-alarm equipped E90 from 3/2009+? Anyone else successful in installing and activating/coding the retrofit kit on a non-prewired car? |

Found out car wouldn't go into gear (DCT) because seatbelt wasn't fastened. Apparently the software update done with the alarm coding requires the seatbelt to be fastened now before the car can be put into gear (DCT only) and didn't bother to tell the techs. Stupid feature IMHO.
Anyway, alarm still doesn't work but car is operable (I think - I'll know tomorrow). Basically I'm back to where I was when I dropped the car off. Tech and SA are really trying to help but it seems that BMW doesn't provide them the tools needed to get this (and other coding related things) done since they don't trust the techs with a full version of the coding software. Well, I guess it's more research before I can use my alarm. |

One thing to consider is that this OEM Alarm retrofit has been never offered to any USA 3-Series. And the nature of BMW techs and shop foremen in the average BMW dealer in the USA is not to know too much about any OEM retrofits in general, IMO.
Another thing to consider is that after the 7 years or so of the E9x production (just ended) they are still trying to understand how to program a car without messing modules up. So I am not surprised about your problems, this is pretty much normal SOP. I think that you need to contact one of the forum vendors here about coding the alarm to your car (change Vehicle Order to add $302). That should be enough to get enable the OEM Alarm and make it a permanent part of your native VO. |
