Huge Decision....
So I've had my m3 for over a year now, I love it and all but DCT is just not cutting it for me. Of course it's superior, but I'm a die-hard stick fan. The m3 is leased, but I have a great option, thanks to my dealer, to get out of the lease with no ridiculous penalty. With that said, I am currently looking for a new car....thinking about a z4 m, audi tt rs, another m3 in 6MT, 2006-2008 carrera s. Any personal opinions as to which one I should go with?

What is the car to be used for I guess, if you need some level of space then perhaps 6mt m3. 997.1 c2s/c4s are great cars as I came from one but costs will be higher and I'd suggest if you can go with a 2nd gen 997 once the new 991 is out.

my suggestion is for the OP to go test drive some cars before deciding. I think I would lean towards the 997.1 C2S although if you can manage it, the 997.2 is a noticeable improvement. The manual transmission in these cars is very mechanical and direct feeling. as are all the other driver inputs on a 911. also, the arm rest is not in the way on the 997 like the M3 is when shifting. intake and exhaust note wise though, the V8 M3 has them both beat fairly well. If you are into track or want a little more edgier car, then a 997.1 GT3 could also be a great car and a relative bargain.

Do you track? Do you need space? Do you have a DD?
If it were me, I'd do Cayman S/R or 911 2S.

Between the choices you have listed, get the 997 c2s. I used to have one and the manual driving experience blows the m3 gearbox of the water. Plus, the 991 is coming out soon so im sure you can pick a nice CPO'd one at a steal.

Car is dumb quick. OP I'd really look into one of those. Granted it may not be a Porsche in some regards, the shifter feel in Audi's is a step above BMWs IMO.

depending on how much you want to spend, but for low 30s, z4m can't be beat.
if you are looking to spend 40-50k, 911S is the only choice i'd pick

There are reports of the M97 type engine in the 2006-2008 Carrera S exhibiting--albeit to a lesser degree--the problems which have dogged the M96 type engine: rear main seal (RMS) oil leaks associated with the intermediate shaft (IMS) bearing. A thorough prepurchase inspection would be in order for any Porsche with a M97 type engine.
As the M97 engine is an improvement over the M96 engine of the 996, the MA101 engine in the Generation II 997 Carrera S has advantages over the M97 engine. If I were considering a 997 Carrera S, I would focus examples beginning with the 2009 model year. |

Thanks for insight guys, very set on a 997.1 carrera s with the aero kit. I dig the tt rs, but when you see it in person it's just such a tiny car for a big guy, looks ridiculous. Kind of boyish IMHO
