Folding Mirrors ...
Do you think that top stick thing on the mirrors will remain attached when the mirrors fold in? Do you think they had to shape them that way because of the folding function? I think they're a bit too straight, but I think they had to do this because of the folding feature.
Do the E36 M mirrors fold? It's too bad the black on the mirrors isn't carbon. |

the top portion looks like it might be able to swivel but I'm not too sure about the bottom...

BMW mirrors always fold in, not necessarily automatically. Most German car manufacturers do that, so that when you drive in a narrow road (in Europe, obviously not in the states) you could hit a parked car, etc.. Then the mirror folds in to avoid greater damage. That's why it certainly will be able to fold...
But I don't know if its automatically Best regards, CSL |

Folding
If the joint at the bottom pivots and fold the mirror back toward the window it look like the connection will have to be "broken" at the top strut. Their must be some latching type mechanism involved here.

You can be sure the aftermarket will address this great shortcoming!

Looks as well
And hopefully address the looks as well. One of the weaker points of the new design IMO. Remember all the fuss on the board and all the insistence that the first uncamo-ed mirrors we saw just COULDN'T be production because they were so ugly? If they simple lowered the top strut just a bit, used CF and made it not folding all would be good for me.
