DCT Downshift Throttle Blip

I have 2011 E92 M3 DCT (June 2010 build). Prior to the 1,200 mile service, I got a very strong throttle blip on each downshift while driving in S5. Since the service, I get the strong blip on some downshifts, but not all. I don't see any pattern for the blips. There was no indication that they made any software changes at the service, but who knows. Has anyone else experienced this, or does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Are you saying that the blips vary when you are in S5, or that you notice blips only in some modes? Throttle blips only occur in S4 and above (not sure about the D modes...I think maybe D5 blips).

If you are in S5 all the time and you notice differences in the blips, I'm not sure what to tell you. Maybe it's just that you can hear the blips more in certain situations, or when downshifting at relatively high rpm??

When my dad drove my M he noticed the blips were very subdued in his M. Took him a while but figured out that when Dinan did his Tune, they used a version of the software that was older. They redid the tune with current software and now it is just like mine.

Hope this helps.

So, according to that logic, the dealer updated OP's M3 w/ an older software...?

Was just saying that it could be software related. Didn't say that this was his issue. Just because my worthless comments dont help anyone, doesnt mean I cant post them...

OP please be a little more specific. But let's see if this answers your question:
Blips happen MAINLY on S4,5

^+1 Is the OP saying this difference is occurring under the same conditions? (i.e. S4/S5 and at same/similar RPM(s) when downshifting?)

Yes. I am comparing driving in S5 prior to service to S5 after service. I think I am comparing similar RPM, but it is hard to know for sure. I have had the lack of a blip at various RPMs.

Well, prior to the 1,200 mile service, I don't know that you can (or, "should") downshift to get a nice high RPM blip. I mean, did you used to downshift & wind up at 7,500 RPM & such?

No, I never let it get above 5,000 RPM prior to service.

LOL Part II

Blips should not be affected by a 1,200 mile service. My cars blips just fine before and after as does my buddy's 2011 E92 I drove yesterday after his service.

Take it to your dealer, sit with the shop mechanic and explain your situation to him. Most likely you're in the wrong mode (S4/S5 for downshift-rev match) or you don't know how to drive.

I've found that the throttle blips vary in audible intensity based on the throttle position and other conditions (coasting downhill, full throttle accel, etc.), for a given Drivelogic setting (usually drive in S4).

The throttle blips are RPM dependant. The point of blipping the throttle is to rev match the rpms between gears. The higher the rpm when you downshift the more pronounced the blip will be.

A good or "satisfying" blip occurs between 3000rpm and 5000rpm (more intensive when the M mode is on). It really depends what rpm and what gear you are in.

And those of you who know how to heel-and-toe in manual(6MT), you can actually blip in S3 mode as well. Tap your gas as you downshift!

Don't forget that the car adapts over time. The 1200 mile service might have cleared the adaptations. The old behavior will come back over time unless you've changed your driving style.

I don't see how a rev-match can be more aggressive. If you drop down to say 3rd, you can only rev-match a certain amount to get smooth and proper downshift.
