Introducing Myself - 2011 E92 M3 Competition
whatsup guys, Im currently selling my 2008 335XI (fully modded, including meth injection) and just recieved my 2011 E92 M3 Competition Package AW/FR (extended) DCT fully loaded. I cannot even COMPARE these two cars - for as fast as my 335 was, It is NOWHERE (And I mean NOWHERE) on the same level as this car. The engine, feel, quality, and SOUND are amazing!! I cannot stop smiling.
Anyways, just one question : Is there a 1200 mile break-in period? Because my service guy told me I can leave the showroom and do 175mph with it and redline the gears (because it comes pre-broken in). Im obviously not even going to do this (I havent passed 5k yet), but what is the proper break-in procedure? Thanks guys! Heres some pics: |

If it's brand new, and less than 1200, than No, you should not readline it yet. Yes, there is a running-in period. Should have a sticker on the windshield that gives full details (at least my last///M had the sticker as a reminder).

Do not listen to garbage from the SA. They know nothing. When I got my E46 in 05 the guy didn't even know that all M cars have to go in at 1200 miles. I think this time around the car's computer told me it had to go in. Either way it has to go in at 1200 miles and you shouldn't rev it past 5500 rpm's before then. After that it's kind of play it by ear. At around 1800 miles I said to hell with it, let it rip and I haven't looked back.
P.S. - Not a fan of the sticker .

Can't help myself so here it comes....
RTFM, and do what it says. Will you destroy your car by doing otherwise? Probably not, but why screw around with a $70K machine? That said, really nice color combo there - enjoy your ride! |

Yes, the car has lubricating fluid in it now, not oil. You should not go over 5500 RPM or 107 MPH, nor should you floor the car until the 1200 mile service. Once they do that service which includes changing out the oil, diff fluid and tranny fluid (manual only) you can do as you wish. The only limit is nothing over 137 MPH for a prolonged time period up until 3100 miles

You'll also get a healthy MPG gain once the serrvice is performed.
