Anyone on this forum actually got the Dinan 4.6 Liter V8 for the M3?
http://www.dinancars.com/store/produ...cat=818&page=1
Wow... Price is kind of high though. If it is $10,000 it would be pretty reasonable. Wonder if the price will go down in like 5 years. Got a noob question though, is this a engin tune or they are just putting a whole new engin in the M3? |

lol! that can probably cost 40k + with all the labours and taxes if anyone want to do it in Canada! Dinan retailer at dealership are big rip offs.

Seems like they're trying to recoup all their R&D expenses assuming they'e only going to sell less than five engines! What a sham(e).

From the product page, "Suitable core engine must be returned in Dinan engine crate for full core refund." So looks like $22k with the exchange, plus install. Sure would make one helluva M3... 527bhp!

It takes a certain breed of customer who drops $70k on a car and another $30k in mods. Most would go for the 100k car and leave it stock.

I totally agree, i think I am one of those that would rather have the 100k car out of the box, although I think I couldn't resist modding even that car....sigh.

I agree. My point is that this type of customer is very rare, therefore I don't expect Dinan to sell a lot of these.

I would say it will be a pretty good choice after 5-10 years and the next gen M3 is out. According to the informations we have right now the next M3 will have twin turbo V6 producing about 400-450 HP and lose some weight. I would say it will be about the same price as the current M3, which is about $70,000. By that time the resale value for the current M3 would be about $30,000. (Correct me if I am wrong.) So when you are deciding to trade in your current M3 for the newer one I think spending the money on the Dinan mod will also be a really good option. If you spend the extra money that you have to add after trading in your current M3 on the mod you can have a NA high reving 500+ HP V8, and not a twin turbo lower reving V6.
Right? |

Hmm I wonder how much it would cost to drop the S85 V10 engine into the M3?
Would it be more cost/power effective to do that then to get the stroker? Obviously others have done it in the past

I think the answer to your is no, it is not more cost effective, but it sure looks and sounds cool!

I had Dinan suspension on my E36 M3, so I have nothing against them. Just curious. |

No, but i wouldn't mind working for them. In fact, I have never recieved anything free from either. I just don't like unreasonable unsubstantiated posts against Dinan which seems prevalant here. My history with Dinan is quite short actually. After owning 4 other M cars, non of which had any Dinan parts I have been quite happy with my Dinan accessories on the E90. If someone were to make ridiculous claims about Rogue for example I might have something to say as well because I was extremely satisfied with their exhaust, spacers, pulleys etc., in the past, not to mention Bens customers service.

What are the Dinan headers made from to be worth 7 grand?
Thanks for the price breakdown PG. It may be something to think about in a couple of years.

I don't think I've ever doubted you or what you know, but 60-90k ? you can buy a complete M5 for that. who would spend that on a motor alone? I think it should be signifcantly less
