How Cars Are Actually Used

• Daily driver + family vehicle: 34/67 (51%)
• Track day users: 15/67 (22%)
• Backroad/canyon drivers: 7/67 (10%)
• Highway pulls/Cars & Coffee: 4/67 (6%)

Most Interesting Finding

The largest single response was:“Even if it becomes the best-performing M3 ever, I’d still choose an ICE M3.” (24 votes) Yet only 22% of respondents identify as track-day drivers. That suggests the debate is less about measurable performance and more about:

• Engine character
• Sound
• Mechanical engagement
• Heritage
• Identity of what an M car should be

In other words, the resistance appears to be primarily emotional and philosophical, not technical. The poll indicates BMW’s biggest challenge with the M3 EV isn’t proving it can be fast—it’s convincing enthusiasts that an electric M3 can still feel like an M3.

If raw speed was the only metric, EVs would be flying off the lots. Enthusiasts want an experience, in the case of M, and experience based on heritage. One that excites all the senses. They want to drive the car, not be driven by computers. They want a raw experience, not a clinical one. Up to this point, the consensus is that EVs are quiet, smooth, computerized, bland and frankly boring outside of straight line acceleration.

It’s BMW’s responsibility to transition the purists to EV. It’s not enough to make an electric M3 and say “see, it says M3 on the trunk lid.” Admittedly they have an uphill battle.

Not surprised at all by the findings here. Those that like or prefer an EV might find us petrol guys being old & grumpy but it really is NOT about sheer numbers at all. There is so much more that goes into the experience of driving a performance car than just the 0-60 or Nurburgring bull shit.

I feel like most on this forum "get it". I also believe that the average EV buyer is really more into technology, environmental narratives and has a use case that fits an EV perfectly. That is all fine and dandy but many enthusiasts dont roll like that.

Again, who needs 1,000hp as a daily driver. Utterly pointless.
They only way to judge what the market truly wants is to make the EV and real M3 like for like when it comes to power. If not its not a true comparison and the ICE is subsidizing the EV. Its funny how this point gets “lost” by some.
