Glueing shut bleeder screw

My dang bleeder screw sheared in half and while trying to remove it I completely messed it up. Its not coming out. I've heard that its actually superfluous, you can bleed the system with just the cap. What is the downside to just RTV'ing the thing shut with some pressure resisitant silicone? Should I be flamed for suggesting such a thing.

Just get a new one. Heat up a screwdriver just hot enough to melt into the rest of the bleeder and twist the remnants out.

I am pretty sure it is there for a reason.

At least on the e36 platform, I can tell you from experience it needs to be open to fully bleed air out. Otherwise a hose may blow (happened to me) or a coolant reservoir will crack apart (happened to me).

I'd do what spammy said and remove it and get a new one.
