F30 B47 - city/urban behavior

Hi everyone,

I would really like to try a BMW F30. At the moment I cannot afford a 6-cylinder petrol engine, but even for 1–2 years maximum, I don’t have the patience anymore and I would consider a 2.0d B47.

My “issue” is that I use the car mainly in the city, up to around 50 km per day. I visit clients, start the engine 10–12 times per day, and also do short trips. I know it’s not the ideal scenario (that’s why I currently have a Toyota hybrid, which is perfect for this kind of use).

I would like to ask owners who also use the car a lot in the city: how does the engine behave in these conditions? What about the DPF and EGR — how often do they clog or cause problems?

I would still do a highway trip every 2–3 weeks, but would that be enough for this kind of usage? I wouldn’t necessarily be stuck in heavy stop-and-go traffic, since I usually leave after rush hour, and it’s also a smaller city (Târgu Mureș), where traffic flows relatively smoothly after 8:30.

If the engine is kept in Sport mode more often, do you think there would be lower chances of DPF/EGR issues?

Also, does the city fuel consumption on a B47 go above 10 L/100 km?

Compared to more mainstream brands (VAG, Hyundai, etc.), are maintenance and parts significantly more expensive?

Do you think that after 200,000 km, a B47 will likely require major service investments?
