Repairs done before recall
Hi All,
Has anyone ever successfully gotten reimbursed for the cost of repairs incurred before a related recall was issued? Long story, will hold on that for the moment, but suffice to say this has been quite a battle... |

I fixed the coolant expansion hose like a year before it became a recall. BMW would not reimburse me for the part. I knew I wasn't getting the labor. But come on BMW, gimme my $30. lol

It's been an ordeal for me.. the coolant pump recall scrambled everything and gave me non specific messages, so I took it to a very good specialty shop that figured it out and replaced the pump...pricy repair, like $2200. I think the pump replace itself was around $1400 of that, the rest was diagnostic time
Recall came out months later but no fix for a long time after. Now trying to get any reimbursement is a nightmare...I have been transferred around like a cat toy for months now, local dealer is [expletive] for numerous reasons but that's another epic story regarding my 2011 335 which I dearly miss. pray for me |

Since you took it to an Indy you're probably not going to be reimbursed for the cost. If the repair was done at a dealer you would have a better chance with this. Unfortunately, I think you're on the hook here.
Dealers get parts much cheaper, also I believe they would be reimbursed for any warranty work (parts+labor) so they dont lose $ on these jobs. Now you're asking them to eat the cost of marked up hardware and labor from an indy. I just don't see them taking this hit, especially without a fight. I often use the dealership because of the warranty on their work. Even oil change, I take the 3 years deal, 1 oil change can cost as much as the 3 years deal on a V8. Yes, cheaper if I do it, I know. At this point, I’d rather pay, but I lost faith in the jiffy lubes, so there.
I recently had the transmission serviced at a shop recommended by local members of the BMW CCA because the dealer would not do it. I wasn’t willing to tackle that either. They did offer a warranty also. Just my thoughts. |

thanks for the responses
There's only one dealer in my State and I avoid them like the plague because of a *very* bad experience with them on a prior car. The Indy shop is far better and only a few miles away. This whole experience has been a nightmare throughout the entire BMW organization.. |
