ESS G1 - Software is locked

Hey guys,
at the moment i have the standard tune from ESS for the G1 SC. I wanted a custom tune, but the problem is, that its not possible to read the ESS tune and modify it.
Is the only solution to go back to the original BMW software and write a complete new software tune?
The problem is that my tuner thinks that going back to the original software could damage my ecu, because there is a chance that not all signatures in the ecu could be overwritten.
Does anyone have experience with that topic?

Going back to stock tune doesn't damage your ecu. It sounds that he has not the experience he should have.

Yes, the G1 is locked, so you can’t modify the tune directly.

But you should have been provided an OEM tune to revert to (most of the time, you have to send a file of your oem tune for the G1/+before you get the updated map sent back) . From there, your tuner can create a backup of the OEM tune and start modifying parameters for the G1.

Alternatively, you can just set up a remote tune with BPM Mike and get it done that way.

Although, I don’t see why you’d need a custom tune unless you’re changing to a different size pulley, injectors, fuel pump, or running different fuels.

To be fair, i wanted to get the standard ESS tune checked, whether the software is reasonably in terms of safety, etc. My tuner didn't try to flash my tune back to the original BMW software, because my car is only registered on April. He just had bad experiences with other tunes in the past, so he thought that it could be a possibility.
But its good to know, that its not a problem.

No tuner would want to expose their parameters to others. It makes it extremely easy to copy another's work that way.

You'd want go back to stock and have it retuned by your tuner if that is what you want to do.

Do some research, Ess tuning is tried and proven. Your tuner sucks.
