E93 M3 Vibration starting at 40mph

Hey everyone,

I’ve got a 08 E93 M3 with about 165k miles, DCT.

I was driving on the Highway today going about 80 mph and out of no where the car started vibrating terribly seemingly coming from the rear, I pulled over and observed the car and there seems to be no damage, ( I checked wheels, bumper, etc) after doing some research, it seems like it could be a plethora of things, but I guess to troubleshoot, has anyone experienced anything like this?

It’s fine under 40 mph but as soon as it hits 40 it starts to vibrate and gradually gets worse as the speed increases.

There is no change to the vibration on or off the gas, (once up to the aforementioned speed) and no change based on RPM either, I’m assuming this is likely driveshaft or CSB related?

Could be. When was the last time diff fluid was changed? I had vibrations at around 50 MPH and when accelerating hard that have all but went away after a diff flush. I'd start there, and then check the CSB.

Also tires can become out of balance. Our cars are sentive to everything. Drivetrain can def cause vibrations. If you have a lot of miles it would be worth inspecting the center bearing. Also check the rear wheel bearings or all wheel bearing for that matter. A warpped rotor can cause issues too.

I ordered a used entire driveshaft assembly, also a new Guibo and CSB, BMW tech seems to agree that’s it’s most likely the driveshaft, it’s it’s not I’ll move on to axles or wheel bearings

I had the tires balanced twice, didn’t fix it, also the tire shop didn’t indicate any bending or cracking on the wheel

Turns out it was my CSB, it was quite literally destroyed, replaced and got rid of 80% of the vibration, it sfine for now, bought axles and wheel bearings as well just in case
