Catback Exhaust Volume Inquiry
Hey Everyone,
I am about to pull the trigger on a 2012 e92 M3 6MT, and my first mod will be an exhaust. My 2013 M3 DCT had the Borla ATAK, otherwise completely stock, and I loved everything about the exhaust note, volume, and lack of drone(to my ear). This time around, I am almost certain I will eventually get HF catted x-pipe and a tune(maybe even a supercharger down the road). It was tough, but I found a Borla S-type available, and am thinking that will be a better pairing with the x-pipe than the ATAK for my taste. Does anyone have any experience that could help me make up my mind on which axleback to get, namely how the s-type sounds with an x pipe? I could find any videos, appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks

it'll probably be as loud as the attak if you're going to run a catless xpipe with the S-Type

Maybe something like Dinan or MPE would better suit my taste with catted x pipe. Thanks

you'd probably hate the MPE with any xpipe. it's too raspy for some.

The MPE with the wrapped X-Pipe sounds amazing with a very good quality rasp only after 3k and if you're really on it. |

I have a the Borla S-type on my e90. Got it direct from Borla when they were doing close out pricing for like $600! E90 specific S-type and ATAK are now discontinued. I have it paired to a Macht Schnell catless x-pipe (so just two resonators). It sounds great with absolutely no rasp which I’m happy about. Pretty deep full sound. It can be quite bassy between 1700-2300 rpm. A quad resonated x-pipe or one with high flow cats may tone that done a bit but I’m unsure. I’ve actually played around with the idea of switching to an x-pipe with quad resonators to see the difference.

Sounds good! I’m looking to either add the cats or resonators in the next month or two, will let you know when I do if you wanna see as well. Btw, are you in our local Houston e9x chat?

Thank you guys for the comments, I was not able to get a Borla S Type after all.
I am in Houston too, would love to be a part of the M group here once my car arrives in a few weeks. Thanks again, guys.
