extra preventative parts

Hey guys, I'm slowly accumulating parts to tackle some preventative maintenance on my E90 M3, namely:

Spark plugs
injectors
throttle actuators (from Rebuild UK)
BMC airfilter

Are there any other parts I should replace "while I'm in there"? Fuel tank vent valve, valve cover gaskets, and oil filter housing gasket were replaced a couple months ago. Maybe the thermostat and coolant temp sensor since my car is taking a bit to warm up in the morning? Throttle position sensors? I've read that these goes bad often as well but I'm not getting any symptoms atm. Thanks in advance!

Pretty good list you got there and if you say that your breather valve was replaced already nothing else really needs to be done preventatively that I can think of.

Thermostat and coolant temp sensor would be very commonly replaced along with your oil filter housing gasket so I would double check that they weren't before swapping them out. Very simple and affordable to do as well in the event you decide to change them.

Only other thing I can think of that is relatively cheap and somewhat common of a failure would be the PCV valve, but even with the work you are doing it's not really a "while you're in there" job and can be a real pain to get at. What's your mileage at currently?

Thanks for the advice. My car is currently at 116k. I'm going to add thermostat and temp sensor to my list. I went through the car's service record and only saw that the hoses going to the thermostat housing were replaced and not the thermostat itself. The PCV valve is the hose assembly that connects to the front/bottom of the plenum? Is it a PITA to disconnect the backside?

Not everyone is me but I replaced the starter, idle control valve and all related hoses, both actuators, injectors all in one shot but this was two years ago. parts were considerably cheaper but it was good to just go in there and do it all at once and not have to worry about going back in there for a while.

The PCV hose indeed runs from the plenum and under the throttle bodies on the right side if you are looking at the motor. The physical valve that it connects to is what usually goes bad and is on the backside of the crankcase and is definitely a pain to get at.

Personally, I wouldn't do the ICV as others have suggested unless you suspect something is wrong with it as they are about $900+ right now. If anything, cleaning the ICV will suffice if you want to be proactive. Definitely throw a new thermostat in there if it hasn't been changed, super easy.

Good tip! If cleaning is a possibility to save $900, I'm all for it! Will definitely replace the thermostat and sensor though. I'm contemplating now whether I should replace the PCV valve at all since it looks to be a super pain to get to and I'm not getting any errors or symptoms indicating that it needs to be replaced.

Good deal. Leave it unless you need to replace imo.

If you do end up doing it, save yourself the trouble and just remove the TBs on that side. Total pain trying to reach around behind them and get the bolt out of the valve.
