SOLVED: Manual Transmission -- Transmission Oil Pump Working?
Has anyone been able to successfully use the service routine in ISTA that activates the transmission oil pump as for purposes of draining/filling transmission oil? I cannot hear anything actually "activating" and am wondering if the oil pump is even working.
I even made sure to make sure the transmission is in neutral...closed the door...pushed in the clutch. No idea as there are absolutely no audible sounds. Maybe I have a bad pump or something because I am now curious if I have enough oil in the transmission when I replaced it with fresh oil.

#9 as in the picture. I'm starting to wonder if I have the full fluid fill on the trans or not. ![]()

I have done it when i have flushed my manual gearbox, no problem i have followed ISTA procedure.
When i have activated the gearbox oil pump some 0,5l of very dark oil flow off the gearbox. Refill the gearbox with castrol Transmax Z oil, the gearbox is perfect now. Edit: you could hear very distinctly the sound of the pump, and when the gearbox is empty of oil, check the metal filter cartridge |

I have done it using the procedure in ISTA. The pump is loud, no doubt you'll hear it if it runs. Make sure the car is in ACC mode with the key, if not, it won't activate.

Okay. Thank you guys for confirming it is indeed LOUD because I am hearing nothing.
I'm going to further investigate. When I took out the filter screen from before, it was clean with no particulates or anything trapped within the mesh. Good point on making sure the IGN is set properly. I did set it to ON and not ACC. Maybe I can try that next.

UPDATE
First step in any electrical issue is...[checking] wiring.
I verified the wiring to the pump. TIS is wrong...again (unless someone else can confirm actually better than the documentation provided). X6200 is perhaps incorrectly marked instead of X6011 like it ought to be. Anyway, I have continuity from the DME pin 5 (which is GREY and not red) to pin 1 on the X6011. And from the pin 1 of PUMPE to the connector all the way down to the pump 2 pin connector (pin 1 on pump connector) I have continuity. I think this is suggesting I have a bad pump.

Okay. I guess I MAGICALLY fixed it...somehow.
I reconnected the oil pump two pin connector and then just jumped the red wire on X6011 to the battery positive. Indeed it sounded TERRIBLE, but actually ran! When it was running, it sounded kinda gritty and then got better. I'm wondering if it was the connectors fault on the pump. It did look a little grimey and perhaps wet when I pulled it out. I just simply wiped it up and reconnected it after verifying continuity to the connector. So now it works!

So BTW, there CANNOT be any faults on the transmission. I found this out by disconnecting the transmission oil-temp sensor as to move it out of the way of the fill port since I got the oil pump magically working. When I went to try and run the service-routine, it didn't work. Then as soon as I plugged in the temp sensor, it started working again (there is a slight debounce time).
FYI, I was curious how much oil I was under, and when filling and running the pump constantly there was about 10 oz of oil that I could add. Hopefully I didn't cause any issues with a lower oil level.

I’m at a lost. Any stupid thing for me to check? I’m in acc mode. Ista 4.39.20. Ista thinks it’s firing the command but it’s not activating the pump |

Simply put, I just forced the oil cooler pump on...but I did it with the x6011 connector.

I hope it’s just Ista but I found a used dme off eBay for 150 bucks so I’m gonna do the mss6x flasher thing to delete ews and code to my vin… if it’s still not running the pump then I’ll have to conclude it’s Ista. If it does run then there’s something wrong with my dme. |

just updating the thread in case other people need help. as it turns out it will not run the transmission pump if there are ANY DME codes. I had a completely unrelated code - missing BSD for alternator when i was testing it and i could never get the transmission pump to run. I just finished replacing my alternator and for shits and giggles I decided to tell it to turn on the pump and lo and behold, it starts up just fine. I ran it while the engine was running too, so the parameters for ista to respond to the command is very specific it seems. If you're doing it, make sure you get rid of ALL your DME codes |

At any rate, In my previous picture, leave the connector plugged in and supply 12V to the red wire to activate the pump.
