VANOS issue?
Hello everyone,
Got a service engine light, protool scan showed ” VANOS valve, exhaust, bank 2, activation” fault 2766. When plugged into a generic obd 2 I get code P0023 “B camshaft position actuator circuit/open bank 2” Just curious if anyone has experience with these codes and can shed some light. I’ve already checked camshaft position sensors and they all seem to be connected fine. Also swapped my bank 1 and bank 2 exhaust Vanos solenoid valves in hopes of diagnosing a faulty solenoid, however, even when “affected” solenoid is swapped to bank 1, fault still shows on bank 2. Should I just replace both exhaust solenoids? I notice no real performance difference, car idles fine and accelerates normally. Any direction is greatly appreciated! |

Circuit open means the selonoid is busted or you have a loose/broken wire. Being that you swapped them and the issue stayed at the same bank tells you it?s probably the wire or connector or pin in the connector.

Thanks! I will test the connectors and see if there lies the problem. Where is the exhaust Vanos Solenoid located on the S65?

There is a huge amount of bots on this site right now, acting as humans. They are even PMing the admin and whining at them. Im just trying to make sure that we are talking to a human and not a bot. |

I'm not a bot, and no I haven't swapped sides yet. I am having the same generic P0023 code as the person who posted the thread first. (Haven't had time to work on it yet) I wanted more information before I started chasing problems blindly. Thanks for the information anyways. Last edited by inoizink; 03-03-2026 at 07:58 PM.. |

What I said was true, I'm trying to find a pattern on bots. It has been common in the past that a bot would ask a similar question. This forum has been absolutely bombarded with bots and scammers. Quite a few members have lost hundreds of dollars each in scams. I apologize for the accusation. |

No worries, thanks for the help. I’m gonna take a look today and swap sides to see if that changes anything when I scan it. |

I started going over the connectors and realized that under the plenum where the other side of the connector is, one of the little wires to it was broken! I was able to fix it easily and put everything back together, everything's working perfect now! Thanks guys for the support and information. ![]() |
