Benefits of a 275 on 10.5" wheel

The 275/35/18 square setup on a 10" wheel is very common, though on Apex's website they state their 10.5" wheels are for those looking to maximize sidewall support for 275 wide tires. What does that mean? Would I see any benefit with a 275 tire on a 10.5" wheel? Usually I run NT01s or Toyo RR's.

The tires you mentioned tend to have somewhat soft/vague steering response. I've run 275 RR's on both 9.5 and 10" wide wheels and I would definitely take Apex recommendation to run 10.5".

Also opens you up to the possibility of running 285 or 295/30's.

Your last statement is what brought me down this path. I've been looking into using a 285 or 295 tire with a 10.5" wheel, but wanted to make sure that if I had to go back to a 275 tire there wouldn't be any downside and possibly a benefit on the wider wheel.

Yep. No downsides to running 275 on 10.5" wheel, and I think for those tires mentioned, it will improve the tire feedback felt through the wheel.

Only possible downsides:

Front wheel fitment can be challenging depending on the 10.5 offset.

When you put the wheel down flat, the rim hits the floor as there is not enough tire to protect it. Not a problem for track wheels, just something to keep in mind.



That said, I'm running 18x10.5et25 +5mm spacer up front for clearance on 275/35/18 tires.

How about running 275 on 11" wide? I am looking to downsize from 295 on my rear tires since they are rubbing at full compression.

I wouldn't. Would be very stretched. Unless it's a very wide 275.

I ordered Michellin PS4S in 275 and will find out soon!
They actually have 11" Wide as Maximum width for 275 tire. I don't like the stretched look neither but hopefully won't be that bad since 275mm wide is 10.8 inches and Pilot Sport tires are very "Squared".

Depends on the tire, a lot. I just did some 295 Cup 2 on 11" APEX wheels and they were very stretched, which surprised me. Depends on the profile as well. The more sidewall, the less stretched it will typically look.

Just replaced the rears PSS 295/30/19 with PS4S 275/35/19!
They are a bit stretched but not that bad.
Absolutely no more rubbing! I am thinking I could have gone 285/35/19 (but probably still rub and need more aggressive camber).
Overall, very happy with the result.

You're running 27/35/19 front without rubbing? You sure it's not 275/30?

Sorry, the fronts are only 245/35/19!
The rear wheels have very aggressive offset, 19x11xET28.
