I'm interested in learning more about making the side vent (where the side indicator lives on e92 M3) a functional outlet for high pressure air in the wheel well. It won't be as effective as @dogbone's ACR-style cut outs, but I imagine it's better than nothing. I could be wrong!
I searched the forum but came up empty. Anyone try this before? ![]() |

For track use, I don’t think those tiny holes that are behind a fender liner are going to do much in terms of flowing air. Even cutting the fender liner—-I don’t think you’d gain much.

its possible, but the quality of execution will be the variable. this was one of the things i was intent on exploring when i had my fender off to remove the washer reservoir (you don't actually have to take the fender off, i was sort of exploring).
so, there is a cap on the back of the "vent." i think M division intended for the vents to be functional, but the suits put a stop to it because it probably added $1 to the cost of making the fender liner. most people would probably hate how much dirt and crap would come through it anyways, so i can understand why they scrapped the idea. e90's have a shallower fender vent than e92's. each car has a slightly different profile and some parts that look alike are actually different. i don't see this being as big of a minute change for the e90's as it is in the e92's. here is how i would prefer this to be done- vacuum moulded plastic that snaps on to the fender vent, that cones out like a traffic cone to a hole in the fender. four of those 8mm fender screws into some of those fender nuts would secure it. here is how it could be done- 2" brake duct inlets that attach in a similar fashion, but affixed to the actual vent using a very short brake duct hose. i don't like 3d printed stuff for things like this. fender wells are a harsh environment and they just don't seem to last with heat and vibration. Also, keep in mind, unless you're a little nuts like me, you're adding like 4 square centimeters of non-directed air ventilation… on a non ground effect aero car.

What's behind the fender?
I've been toying with a similar idea on my E46. I was thinking about filling the cavity with foam to form a plug so I can pull a mold from.

On the driver side, you have the brake booster pump inside the fender. You can move that up and towards the engine for the rear vent. But that’s a bit of a project too. |
