Possibly visiting California

We're talking about doing a couples trip to Napa, redwoods, and downtown San Fran. Some of us aren't vaxed so are we wasting our time? My understanding is sfo is a lot more strict so staying downtown would probably be pointless. But what about Napa? Some wineries don't have any covid related info at all. Can someone tell me what to expect if we were to plan a trip?

You need to show a vaccination card at most establishments in the Bay Area. I wouldn't find it relaxing trying to navigate around that.

Skip San Fran and you'll have a great time.

This. Route yourself through the Golden Gate Bridge on the way to Napa, it's really the only thing there worth seeing and you can pull over to get some really nice views of the city and water. You don't want to go underneath the veneer, so to speak. The city looks beautiful from a distance, but once you get in there, it's dirty and run down and not worth visiting, unless you quickly want to drive through it.

Live in SF and agree. Downtown is especially bad. Lots of homeless people and downtown is dead on the weekends.

The neighborhoods away from downtown are much nicer.

It's what I though. Thanks for the replies. Besides wineries and redwoods what else is there that could occupy our time for a few days.

I lived in SF for years and recently just moved. It looks like the walking dead. Also you don't want you're car broken into.

Just dont leave shit in your car if you're parked and in SF/Oakland. They will break every damn window looking for loose change and bags

born and raised in sf. skip the downtown area and youre good. rest of the neighborhoods are much much better. the neighborhoods that arent as nice have no reason for you to be there anyways so good chances you wont end up there.

its hit or miss with the vaccine card checking. 50% of the places dont even check. just depends where you go.

as far as smash and grabs go, if its out of sight then its out of mind. never have i ever had my window smashed here in sf my entire life so a lot of these people leave shit out and its bound to happen. and this also only happens in the touristy areas but in most neighborhoods it doesnt happen.

If you go to kings canyon and sequoia, you'll wonder why you wasted time in San Fran.

I have never been asked for proof of vax in Napa, but SF I agree, it's 50/50. 121 from Napa to Lake Berryessa is also a fun drive.

Kings canyon looks awesome. That is way more exciting than a city. We might just do that.

highway 1 on the North side of the GGB is a fun run road to drive on too and enjoy the coast. the point reyes lighthouse re-opened recently. nice little hike (fuck-ton of stairs lol #norcal) but its a fun little adventure. you can get fresh out of the water oysters up there too if thats something youre into. most of the big oyster sellers in SF buy from the oyster farms up along 1.

Something a little south of SF that consist of a fun drive is taking 84 to "4 corners" aka Alice's, eating at alice's (if you want) then driving down the rest of 84 to Half Moon Bay.

lots of options, youll find something to fit your fancy.

I'd recommend doing The lost coast, fortuna, shelter cove etc. Beers and burgers at The Peghouse and then come down highway 1 down the coast. Some of the best roads and scenery I've ever seen. Just stay away from "private" roads. Lots of pot farms up there and they don't take too kindly to "trespassers".
