Sorry to hear brotha. Glad it was only the deposit!
We are lucky to be in SoCal as you just need to be patient and everything comes up for sale eventually. In the past couple years I bought and sold a few things. No one has asked me for a deposit....just meet the person and if the stuff looks good, Paypal or venmo or whatever on the spot. No legit seller needs a deposit. I won't take a deposit for selling....i have the person come and inspect first. I know this doesn't help now but maybe for next time.
