Goodyear Supercar 3R temps
Anyone running supercar 3r? What is the desired operating temps? Running them on 18x10 square 275/35/18 in case anyone is wondering.

How are you measuring temps? Unless you come flying into the hot pits and have someone on standby with a probe to immediately read, the temps you take in the pits after the session are pretty much worthless.

Measuring in the pit. Still gives me an idea of what temps I should keep them around.

Ran them for the first time this past weekend, very impressed. Didn’t measure temps, but they were quick and consistent between 34-37psi hot. Didn’t try any lower.

I am almost through my 1st set of 3R. Was able to get 3 track days out of them.
They do not work well when cold. I spun out on a low speed 30 mph corner on track when it was 50F degrees ambient temperature outside. It was like ice, zero grip at all. As they warm up, the tires get much grippier. These tires like heat and get more grippy as they get hot. Just beware when cold.

My experience is like Z K. I run mine at around 36 psig hot, haven't measured temps as you'd have to get a gauge on them while on the track. On a stock suspension & car, in 97F ambient they're good for running hard on a technical track for about 5 mins before they like a little cool down, which is a lot more than I could get out of RE71R. Also, never got them as greasy as I could get RE71R, but more than 5 mins run really hard on a hot track and they're past their optimal. On cooler days (65F or so), I could run longer before they got past their optimal, and they didn't fall off as much when I did push them past. I think that with a better suspension setup (more camber, less body roll), I'll get a lot more out of them.
I've also had a 'surprise wheelspin!' event on power at speed driving straight when 50F out and cold. Seems they fall off very quickly below 60F ambient before getting heat into them, esp if they have few heat cycles. Just bought my third set. |

They don't get greasy as other trackable street tires do. They get more and more grippy as they get hot where other 200tw tire's grip falls off as it gets hot. The cold tires are pretty scary too. I have to be careful on the road when it's cold out in the early morning on the way to the track or when doing a spirited mountain drive.
