My first experience with Michelin Track Connect

I just ordered all this for my car. When selecting tires in the app, did you use "Pilot Sport Cup 2" or "Pilot Sport Cup 2 R"?

Neither is really "Pilot Sport Cut 2 Connect (240)", the tire I ordered. Since this tire is specifically designed for the track connect app, I'm surprised they don't have it more definitively laid out.

(I went for the non R option above)


I'm pretty absurdly excited for these. I'm a huge fan of Michelin in general, and this should make setting pressures and not over driving the car pretty idiot proof. Plus, with my head unit running android, I'm just going to install the track connect app on that-- which should be a pretty clean integration.

The 2R is a totally different tire, do not select that one.

Michelin Track Connect works only with Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect Tires. Original Cup 2 and Cup 2 R are not supported. Connect tire has sensor holders inside.

Yes, I understand that— which makes it all the more confusing why the track connect app lets you select psc2 or psc2R, but has no pilot cup 2 connect (240) option when setting up your car.

Most likely because the tires aren't significantly different than the ones without the sensor holder.

Also, you can use the app with tires that don't have the sensors but you have to do the work yourself.

That is a little bit weird, because there's non-240TW PSC2s with track connect. Who knows, probably just a programming / configuration oversight.

I don't understand -- what is the data telling you? What is it measuring?

We use pyrometer across the tire (which really also is for alignment) and tweak pressure to change handling. How does the app know if you need to move air around to cause one end of the car to rotate better?

There are sensors embedded in the tires, and it correlates that with the G-sensor in the phone to try and pinpoint tire-related handling behavior.

Ideally you'd optimize the tire pressure for grip (what this app does), and balance your oversteer/understeer with springs and sways.

This lets you get the tires in their optimal pressure range, and lets you know if you're over or under driving them (live temps).

That is a good question. I'm 2 weeks out from my first event with these. What pressures did you end up with (as a ballpark starting point for me).

For those new to the game. Here's some basic information on the subject. See all attached .pdf files. The hot pressure game is not quite the same for street tires as it is for racing tires when used on Circuit tracks, Rovals (combo of banking and circuit) or Ovals. However, the concepts are the same i.e. optimizing for a hot pressure ceiling and uniform tire temperature profile across the face of the tires (as measured with a Pyrometer).

Track connect recommends front and rear interval 2.5 - 2.8 bars. Yes, BMW recommendation for street use is 2.4 bar front / 2.6 bar rear. But based on my experience, 2.6 bar front pressure is correct. I have 2.5 degrees camber in front and at lower pressure inside edge of the tire warns way faster.

But, I believe that Track Connect recommended pressures are track, temperature and weather related, not one for all.
