dct cluncking noise

Hey guys,
Picked up an e92 today and I have a question...
Is it normal to hear a clunking noise from the transmission when changing into AND out of neutral?
I assume it is just it engaging?
Car has 39k miles...

Mine did that also. Best way is to see bmw service department

These cars definitely have their set of normal noises. The DCT does have a normal clunk to it when shifting from N.

No ! I just thought it was normal for the dct

DCT is a bit of a mechanical box. It's normal to hear a bit of clunk as it enters or disengages from neutral. But I'd you just got the car, I would definitely make sure you do a DCT fluid change to make sure fluid level is clean and sufficient.

These transmissions are a little loud going to reverse and drive and back to neural, look at videos on youtube and compare to what youre hearing in your car.

If you are referring to the noise when the trans engages and disengages a gear while the car is stationary, then yes that is normal.

If you are hearing a noise while starting to move forward or backwards after the gear is selected. Then that may not be normal.

I got a PPI at a bmw dealer so I'd hope they would check that.

I have driven a few e92s that don't make any noise.

Yes there's some clunk. Shouldn't sound like a cowbell though.

Yes there is an audible noise to engagement. Even when all contributing parts are perfect there is a noise and perceivable thud. Extreme side of this would be a worn drive shaft carrier bushing and or diff.

Not only does mine clunky sometimes but I can feel the engagement in the chassis sometimes shifting to/from Neutral. Doesn't do it all the time. DCT fluid is full and serviced frequently. I do have stiffer engine mounts tho.
