Fan malfunctioning/engine overheating? 0027b8 error code??

Seems like my rad fan is intermittently working.
Replaced the relay but still getting this error.

Any other suggestions on fixing this before I drop $1000 on the fan?

you should be able to check resistance of the fan and i could check mine, had to replace a fan on one of my m3's a few months ago after it blew up and went through the radiator
