Anyone known good shop to do rod bearings in Bay Area??

My 2011 just surpassed 90k, and before I spend any money on more performance, I'd like to get the rod bearings replaced.

Anyone on here live in the Bay Area, and can recommend a good shop to do them??

But the go to shop for most locals is VT Motorworks in Pleasanton.
Or member Playskool1 (Ray) in Union City.

Thanks for the tips. I spoke to both shops. VT quoted me $3,500 parts/labor, plus new motor mounts.

EDGE quoted about $2,000 for just labor + cost of parts depending on which bearings I went with, so approx the same once we add in the price for BE bearings and motor mounts.

Somehow I thought total for a RB job was closer to $2,000-$2,500, no?

Is this $3,000-$3,500 fairly standard?

$3000-$3500 is not standard. It should be more in the $2500 range. Take a trip to socal and have Malik at MRF Engineering do the job. He's the best. He always take your call and answer all you questions. Even the stupid ones.

Bay Area prices are typically going to be higher than SoCal. There are several places in SoCal that will do it with parts included for ~ $2-$3k.

Second. I live in SF and drove to MRF. I'm heading back for several major pieces of work because of how good his rates and work are, rather than wasting money and rolling the dice locally. Worth the 12 hour round trip, honestly.

check out performance dynamics in santa clara. pricing is more in line with so cal shops

For what it's worth, local rates may be higher but there's no "rolling the dice." The local shops recommended are top notch and have done a ton of local cars. If you are going to SoCal anyway that might make sense, but the miles/gas/time by itself make it a wash IMO.

Indeed... Fuel, food, hotel/AirBnB multiplied by however many days it would take could make it a wash, if not cost more.

Might have to plan a trip down to SoCal to make it truly worthwhile. I'll check out more local shops in the meantime (including SVBimmer).

SV Bimmer did mine for the same $2600-2700 back in August. This was parts and labor, using BE/ARP, and doing engine mounts also.

You'd need to arrive the night before but if you schedule it with Malek, he'll do a same-day RB change with more than enough time for you to be back in SF by 9pm or so. I was, dropped it off at 8:30 and had my car back before 3pm. Crashed with a friend, but one night in a hotel and 2.5 tanks of gas does not necessarily make it a wash as Malek is also going to change your oil pan gasket, oil pump pick up tube rings, drain and refill hydraulic system and coolant, and do a four wheel alignment. That is a great value. Engine mounts were an additional 110 for both installed.

Not exactly sure what his warranty is but send him an email.

If you can get a similar price locally, then the cost and time may offset the bonuses included with Malek, though.
